As a School Support Worker specialising in supporting students with special educational needs (SEN), your role is crucial in creating an inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive.

You will work closely with students, teachers, and other professionals to provide individualised support and assistance to students with diverse learning needs.

Your compassionate and patient approach will help students overcome challenges, promote their independence, and maximize their potential.


Responsibilities:


Provide Individualised Support:
Collaborate with teachers, educational psychologists, and parents to develop and implement personalised learning plans for students with SEN. Support students in academic, social, and emotional aspects, adapting teaching methods and materials as required.

Assist with Learning Activities:
Work alongside teachers to facilitate classroom activities and ensure students' understanding and engagement. Support students with tasks, assignments, and projects, promoting active participation and reinforcing key concepts.

Personal Care and Mobility Support:

Help students with physical disabilities or limited mobility in moving around the school premises, including transferring between classes, accessing specialized equipment, and using assistive technology.

Provide assistance with personal care needs, if required.

Behaviour Management:

Implement strategies outlined in behaviour plans to support students in managing their emotions, developing self-regulation skills, and promoting positive behaviour.

Establish a supportive and structured environment that fosters students' social and emotional growth.

Communication and Collaboration:
Maintain effective communication channels with teachers, parents, and relevant professionals to exchange information and share progress updates.

Monitoring and Reporting:
Observe and monitor students' progress, documenting their achievements, challenges, and areas for improvement. Prepare regular reports and assessments, highlighting student achievements, goals, and recommendations for further support.

Assistive Technology and Resources:
Familiarize yourself with various assistive technologies, resources, and adaptations available for students with SEN. Support students in utilizing appropriate tools and resources to enhance their learning experience and remove barriers to education.

Inclusive Environment:
Promote a positive and inclusive classroom environment, fostering understanding, respect, and acceptance among students. Encourage peer interaction and facilitate social integration for students with SEN.

Health and Safety:
Adhere to health and safety protocols to ensure the well-being of students with SEN. Be aware of any medical conditions, allergies, or specific care requirements of individual students and provide necessary support.


Qualifications and Skills:

  • A genuine passion for working with students with special educational needs
  • Relevant experience or qualifications in supporting individuals with SEN
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude
  • Ability to adapt and differentiate instruction based on students' individual needs
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
