Are you passionate about excellence in mental health care for older people? We are seeking to recruit a substantive full time Consultant Psychiatrist to join our team here in Gateshead.
This is an exciting time to join the Older Peoples Mental Health Team within the community setting as we are currently undertaking service improvement to ensure we continue to provide a high standard of responsive care and treatment.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role within this as we seek to improve the outcomes for patients with functional and organic mental health difficulties.
The successful candidate will also take over the role of Safe care Consultant Lead for the service, working collaboratively to ensure that patient safety and quality care remains at the heart of what we do.

There may be a need for a flexible approach to a pattern of working which may change from time to time depending on the demands of the various areas of the service but this will be discussed with the post holder before any changes are made.
Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust is based in the North East of England and provide a range of health services from our leading facilities including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, QE Metro Riverside and Bensham Hospital, all within Gateshead.
Established in 2005 we were one of the first foundation trusts in the country and since then have consistently achieved the highest levels of care for patients.
We employ around 3,400 staff and currently provide 580 hospital beds across Gateshead.Our primary focus is on providing excellent general health services to our local community complemented by key specialist areas including gynaecology, maternity, palliative care and old age psychiatry.
Alongside a full range of local hospital services, we provide breast screening services for Gateshead, South Tyneside, Sunderland and parts of Durham – and we are the North Eastern hub for the National Bowel Cancer and AAA Screening Programmes, covering a population of around seven million people.
We provide cutting edge care from some of our state-of-the-art facilities including a £32m Emergency Care Centre, a £12m Pathology centre of excellence and the beautifully designed North East surgery centre.
Provide medical leadership, consultant, advice and guidance to ensure that care and treatment are safe, efficient, effective and within national guidelines.
Provide medical assessment, diagnosis and formulation. Upon completion, advise on diagnosis and treatment to the patient, family, clinical team, primary care and external providers.To respond quickly to changing clinical situations in order to manage risk and prevent relapse.
To make assessments and provide recommendations under the Mental Health Act.
To train and supervise trainee medical staff, including medical students and other allied professionals.
To contribute to the ongoing training and development programs within the service.
To lead and advise on research and audit projects in the service, in line with the clinical governance agenda.
To work with statutory and non-statutory services to provide a whole system approach to recovery.Participate in the locality on-call rota
Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register/CCT in Old Age Psychiatry, or within 6 months of CCT date
Approved Clinician or willing to undergo AC training
Evidence of teaching and training skills for Junior Doctors.
Meets the requirements of the GMC's Good Medical Practice
Management training/courses
Experience of Old Age psychiatry in community and hospital Settings
Able to liaise effectively with Primary Care, Social Services, Elderly Medicine and Voluntary Sector
