Purpose of the job
This innovative new role is split into two core components.

The primary responsibility will be to manage a new Community Connectors programme; recruiting and managing volunteer 'Community Connectors', to work with Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities in Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley, reporting and feeding back their experiences with maternity and perinatal services.

Addressing perinatal health inequalities by ensuring voices of marginalised communities are heard. Improving and sustaining trust between services and local communities and providing a link around awareness and education. This is an exciting opportunity to work with the new NHS programme Core20PLUS5, which tackles health inequalities nationally.


Second, to liaise between Involve and the voluntary and community sector (VCSE), the NHS and statutory agencies in West Kent, through facilitating meetings, events and workshops.


Key tasks and responsibilities

Maternity Community Connectors

  • Proactively manage your own health, wellbeing, and resilience
  • Develop and deliver a programme enabling Community Connectors to reach out into their communities and feedback views and experiences
  • Recruit a range of volunteers from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities in the Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley areas. Working alongside the Volunteer Coordinator; train, induct, manage and support volunteer Community Connectors
  • Work with Marketing Officer to create promotional materials used to recruit volunteers from a range of sources and in different languages
  • Facilitate regular meetings for the Connectors to share experiences and resources. Ensure Community Connectors have information and knowledge so that they can act as a liaison and information point about accessing services
  • Report on outputs and findings, providing monthly and quarterly reports to funders and partners
  • Attend learning and development and meetings to learn from and feed experiences into the national Core 20PLUS5 Community Connectors programme
  • Contribute to evaluation of the programme

West Kent Alliance

  • Develop and maintain an uptodate database of the West Kent VCSE Alliance (VCSE organisations, NHS teams and statutory agencies) and maintain positive relationships between VCSE and statutory partners, including local authority and NHS
  • Support the West Kent Alliance to establish excellent channels of communication between partners and assist with the sharing of good practice. Wide dissemination of consultation documents to the VCSE
  • Facilitate and provide administration for West Kent Alliance meetings (min 4 per year) and engagement events (min 2 per year); compile agenda, coordinating venues, presentations, resources, inviting guest speakers. Produce and distribute minutes in a timely manner.
  • Actively engage with Alliance and encourage collaboration, identifying gaps in service provision and themes/priorities affecting the sector and raise these with the Head of Partnerships and Innovations.
  • Work with Marketing Officer to promote VCSE Alliance on social media and ensure website pages for VCSE support are current and easily accessible. Encourage engagement of smaller organisations

Essential

  • Driving license and use of a car
  • An interest in/experience of maternity/perinatal services
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to engage with different audiences
  • Excellent skills in developing relationships with both individuals and organisations
  • Strong organisational skills, including organising meetings and events
  • Ability to work flexibly and respond to changing priorities
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Confident, proactive and able to work autonomously
  • Highly competent and experienced with IT, including Microsoft programmes and sector specific systems/software, and able to troubleshoot problems
  • Willingness to develop new skills and knowledge

Desirable

  • Experience of working in or with VCSE organisations
  • Experience of recruiting/managing volunteers
