    Job Description

    No-one should be dealing with the cost-of-living crisis all alone. Nous is a well-backed early stage startup on a mission to make people's lives simpler and fairer.

    We're building technology to fight for our users. Our free service monitors and optimises household bills for our users saving them money whilst freeing them from a lifetime of admin. Our free service helps households get wise and stay vigilant against rising costs. And by managing household bills and providers for Nous members, we're freeing them from a lifetime of admin while saving them money and time.

    In the next 12 months, we've got some really exciting projects coming up that you could be involved in These include:

    • Building a custom inbox for our customers, so they can see all of their bills documents in one place.
    • Extending our Quest framework which is how we simplify and sequence guiding users through household management tasks
    • Combining Open Banking, email document extraction and LLMs so that we can make it much easier for a user to fully set-up their household on Nous
    • Adding a personalised calendar integration for households, so users can clearly see their upcoming renewal dates.
    • Building long-running workflows using our Blueprint framework which we use to orchestrate and automate how we switch users to new providers for one of their household services.

    Ultimately, we believe there's a better, smarter, simpler way to stay on top of your household bills and providers – get us to do it instead.

    We've thought carefully about how to ensure our product and business has a distinctive positive social impact. We're very proud to say that, as of October 2023, Nous is officially a B Corp. This means we've been formally accredited for our commitment to exceptionally high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. We also regularly lead consumer campaigns – on issues such as broadband social tariffs for instance.

    The role

    We're looking for a Product Engineer to join our team, to help us build a world-class experience that will be used regularly by millions of users across the UK. You will be building a single page application that will guide our users through the complex world of bills and admin with ease.

    We've optimised our stack to minimise infrastructure overhead and are embracing Typescript to provide us with type-safety all the way from the database to the clients (Typescript, React, GraphQL, Prisma, , Jest, Storybook)

    As part of our passionate cross functional team, you will be:

    • Bringing a delightful user experience to life for a wide customer base
    • Actively contributing to product strategy and wider company goals
    • Playing an important role in shaping how our engineering team grows and the tools and practices we use
    • Promoting best practices and a learning environment
    • Architecting, building and managing both our backend and frontend services
    • Building resilient and robust integrations to service providers at scale, with continuous monetization

    About you

    • Experience using Typescript, React (or any other JS framework: or Angular) or React-Native, , GraphQL
    • An interest in product design
    • Deep consideration on how engineering impacts UX and UI
    • A good understanding of data flows and state management in the context of a client app
    • Understands how to abstract processes and how to reuse components
    • A well-developed empathy for how others experience the world
    • A love for building products that help solve real problems for real people
    • Very high tolerance for ambiguity
    • Highly driven
