Salary - £19,849.31 pro rata, based on the full time equivalent of £33,082.19
Part time - 24 hours (3 days) per week, Site Based
22 months FTC
Role Purpose:
This is an exciting time to be joining the National Portrait Gallery as a Designer.
The post holder will work alongside colleagues across the Gallery to develop and implement creative solutions for a range of projects.
The post holder will be involved in the design and production of exhibitions, displays, marketing campaigns and other project initiatives.
To be considered for this post, you will need to have a degree, higher-education certificate, or recognised Apprenticeship in a Design discipline, ideally Graphic Design or Interior Design.
A minimum of 3 years experience working as a Designer, or in a related design field is also highly desirable.
As you will be working with colleagues across the Gallery excellent organisation and communication skills are necessary.Key Accountabilities:
Under the general supervision of the Senior Designer, duties may include:
- Supporting the Senior Designer to design, produce and install exhibitions and displays.
- Working with Curatorial and Learning colleagues to develop and implement a range of projects and changing displays.
- Working with Communications colleagues to design and implement Gallery and Exhibition marketing campaigns
- Assisting the Collections and Conservations teams with the maintenance of our new Galleries
- Managing workflow to deliver projects within agreed timeframe with set deadlines and budgets. Procuring services and goods from external suppliers
- Keeping up to date with best design practice, researching current exhibition design trends
- The above list is indicative but not exhaustive. As such, in addition to the key accountabilities and responsibilities listed the post holder may be required to perform other duties commensurate with the scope and/or level of the role_
Key Experience, Skills and Criteria:
- A minimum of 3 years experience working as a Designer, or in a related design field.
- Previous experience of working within a Museum, Gallery or Arts organisation is highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of industrystandard design software is essential, such as Adobe Creative
- InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and working knowledge of VectorWorks is highly desirable
- Accurate with excellent attention to detail
- Strong IT skills and with a high level of competence in Microsoft Office, Excel and Outlook
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues within Design and across the Gallery
- Ability to work well under pressure and respond to changing demands quickly and accurately
- Understanding of basic procurement processes with the ability to manage a project budget
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage a number of tasks simultaneously.
