Purpose of the Job:


We are seeking a Pastoral Manager to join our team to support our goal of providing an exceptional holistic education for students who have a vision impairment or are blind within our residential and day placement college of excellence.


The Pastoral Manager will support this ambition through the provision of pastoral support to our students in order to maintain excellent levels of attendance, punctuality and behaviour, to enable them to flourish.

We are seeking a Pastoral Manager to join our team to support our goal of providing an exceptional holistic education for students who are blind or vision impaired.


This exciting new role is to provide pastoral support for students who are blind or vision impaired to help maintain excellent levels of attendance, punctuality and behaviour in order for every young person to achieve their potential.

Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Effectively support a whole College approach to positive mental wellbeing.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of students.
  • Take responsibility for raising the standards of conduct and character development across the College through effective communication across the education and residential provisions and particularly, with parents, carers and families.
  • Ensure maximum attendance and punctuality through work with tutors, the attendance team, external support agencies and parents and carers.
  • Maintain high expectations of all students with regards to uniform and equipment, attitude to learning, effort, resilience, achievement, politeness, conduct and behaviour around College in the community.
  • Support the successful supervision of the out of lesson provision including break and lunch time duties and club provision.
  • Provide inclusion support to others in relation to all areas of SEND.
  • Maintain regular contact with families, in particular, the Parent Network and Parent Forum.
  • Contribute to the on call, out of lesson provision and rotas.
  • Work closely with Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to drive the College values and priorities.
  • Demonstrate relentless positivity and ambition for all students.
  • Be a committed, highly competent, energised and reflective individual.
  • Support the Principal and wider SLT with whole College priorities.
  • Work alongside colleagues within the College to continually assess the effectiveness of our provision and support students where additional adaptations are required.
  • Liaise with Heads of Department, Residential Care Tutors, Form Tutors, parents and carers as required, to ensure all pupils make excellent progress, personally and academically.
  • To work closely with staff to ensure that any students who are removed from lessons are well supported to avoid further occurrences.
  • Ensure information is available for students and their parents/carers to make decisions about their future.
  • Support Parents' Evenings and other College events.
  • Track and evaluate the progress of all students and ensure that both pastoral interventions and celebrations are organised, implemented and successful.
  • Deliver well planned, high quality and motivational assemblies in line with the College values and wider causes and celebrations.
  • Liaise with SLT to ensure that all students participate fully in the life of the College.
  • Effectively support a team of Form Tutors and others with delivery of PSHE topics.
  • Support pupils, staff and families upon reintegrating from any fixed term exclusions.
  • Commit to and support the College's policy and practice in relation to safeguarding and child protection.
