    Band 5-6 development post and band 6 OT.

    We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our Stroke and Neuro In reach Therapy Team. Do you enjoy delivering high quality care to patients with neurological conditions? Then this is the job for you

    You will be based on the Heartlands Hospital site, though may have opportunity to work across as you rotate sites. You will have the opportunity to further develop skills in rehabilitation and Neurological conditions. There will also be an opportunity to support and deliver care on the Acute Stroke Unit.

    This post is rotational, and you will have the opportunity to work in ESD, neuro outpatients and the Acute Stroke Unit.

    We are a large and vibrant Therapy Team providing high quality Inpatient and Outpatient services from our hospital sites. We have a strong emphasis on staff development and learning, with excellent support and a robust supervision structure in place.

    Main duties of the job

    To provide a specialist Occupational Therapy Neurological rehab service across the pathway, ranging from both in-patient Stroke and Neuro rehab, to Early Supported Discharge and out-patient rehabilitation.

    You will work as part of a large, friendly, dynamic, and forward -thinking rotation across sites to deliver specialist, client centred rehabilitation for a range of patients. The role will enable you to deliver varied specialist rehab in both in-patient and outpatient settings as well as patient's homes.

    The team is committed to providing supervision and training to enhance your development and has a robust system of support and education in place.

    You will contribute to our flexible working programme across the organisation.

    To provide a high standard occupational therapy service across the stroke and neuro service.

    To use your specialist technical skills to assist in the assessment and treatment of your own caseload stroke and Neurological patients. You will be working alongside specialist therapists who will be able to support your development.

    The caseload is varied and with the possibility of a variety of settings, ESD, acute stroke ward, Outpatient, clinics and community visits.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • *Diploma / degree in occupational therapy.
  • *Current registration with Health Professions Council.
  • *A levels or equivalent qualification
  • *Good standard of general education including GCSE maths and English grade C and above.
  • *Evidence of CPD including recent post graduate training relevant to clinical speciality.
  • Desirable

  • *Evidence of leadership training.
  • *Attendance at Clinical Educators Course.
  • Experience

    Essential

  • *Demonstrates comprehensive clinical experience enabling the post holder to manage a caseload of patients with complex needs in this speciality.
  • *Demonstrate acute clinical experience enabling the post holder to manage a caseload of patients with complex needs in this speciality. This will include acute hospital experience in older people's medicine, frail elderly, neurology and T&O. Minimum of 12 months experience
  • *Experience of team/service development.
  • *Experience of supporting and supervision of junior therapists, students and assistants.
  • *A specialist knowledge across a range of therapy practices, routine and non-routine, requiring expertise within the field of therapy.
  • *Good understanding of working in an acute trust.
  • *Understanding of current legislation and application to Occupational Therapy.

  • *Highly developed physical skills including dexterity, co-ordination & sensory skills for assessment and manual treatment of patients.
  • *Excellent written and verbal communication skills including an ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive and contentious information.
  • *An ability to prioritise and organise own workload.
  • *An ability to cope with a range of complex options, finds solutions, analyse, compare and decide on appropriate course of action. .
  • *An ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • *IT skills -- computer literate in email, Word & PowerPoint
  • *Demonstrate enthusiasm for the specialist area.
  • *Demonstrate a professional attitude.
  • *An ability to cope with moving/manoeuvring patients/equipment on a daily basis.
  • *An ability to frequently concentrate on patient assessments and treatments.
  • *An ability to cope with occasional exposure to distressing/emotional situations.
  • *Able to contribute to weekend service
  • *Demonstrate an interest in developing expertise within the clinical areas.
  • *Hold a full category B car licence preferably clean with no more than a maximum of 3 points
  • *Access to and willingness to use own vehicle to travel to patients homes.
  • *Have Business insurance and have access to a car.
