Are you a buying or administrative assistant looking for a challenging new opportunity?


We have an exciting vacancy to become a part of our buying department as a Stock and Administrative Controller as part of our inventory team.


Our Stock & Administrative Controllers are responsible for a variety of day-to-day tasks that aide the team and keep the systems moving smoothly.

This is a dynamic and exciting area of the business where we manage all aspects of book inventory including buying, returns, and general stock management.


Working as part of a team, you will use your initiative and office skills to deliver excellent results across the business.

This Stock and Administrative Controller position is a dynamic role with commercial, financial, and operational aspects.

It is a rewarding role offering a varied and exciting range of work that covers all areas of the business.

Working with suppliers and other departments at all levels, the position will involve (but is not limited to):

  • Raising, tracking, and maintaining publisher orders.
  • Raising and managing returns.
  • Assisting in the management of our inventory across multiple sites.
  • Liaising with the Gardners sales and accounting departments.
  • Creating and maintaining system and Excel reports.


The buying team promotes a strong team culture, you will be working with various members of not only the team, but other departments, publishers, and with colleagues at all levels.

It is key you are able to work well as part of a team, but also to be able to work on projects alone.


This role is office based at our Eastbourne site. The hours for this position are from 9am - 5.30pm, Monday - Friday.
Essential Skills

  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • The ability to communicate with other departments and with external partners at all levels.
  • Numerical skills with the ability to work with stock and financial data.
  • Ability to prioritise and work as part of a team.
  • Motivated by targets and personal achievement.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office systems, particularly Excel.
Desired Skills


Previous experience within and similar role and within an office would be an advantage to this Stock and Administrative Controller role.
