    We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Department of Allied Health in the School of Allied Health and Community for a fixed period (until You will join a friendly and supportive team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Radiographers, and Dieticians, who play key roles in the delivery and ongoing development of the courses in the Department. You should expect to take an active role in teaching and learning in occupational therapy and contributing to the inter-professional philosophy of the School. Responsibilities for the post will include co-creation and delivery of lectures, seminars, group tasks, and practical teaching activities across all year groups.

    Main duties of the job

    All our staff work as an inter-professional team, teaching collaboratively across shared and profession-specific modules at all academic levels and you will be expected to share this philosophy. As a student-centred inclusive university, your role will include being a Personal and Academic Tutor, to support and encourage students to achieve their potential. You will also participate in admissions and recruitment events where we work collaboratively with our colleagues in IMPACT, the university service-user group, who support teaching, recruitment, and curriculum development. Candidates are expected to highlight their areas of expertise in practice and how they intend to further this through scholarship and research.

    The School of Allied Health and Community offers courses ranging from foundation degrees in various specialties in health and social care, to BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Radiography Dietetics and Social Work and Masters level study in a number of disciplines related to Health and Social Care. The School is also developing a range of new CPD provision. The wider College of Health, Life and Environmental Science has an exceptional reputation for excellence and the appointee will further develop the quality of our provision through strong collaboration with our practice partners.

    Job responsibilities

    1. To provide academic and pastoral support to Occupational Therapy students.

    2. To contribute to learning and teaching activities by acting as a resource to support academic activities in conjunction with academic staff including, but not limited to, co-creation and delivery of lectures, seminars, group tasks and practical teaching activities.

    3. To take an active role in teaching and learning in occupational therapy and contributing to the inter-professional philosophy of the School.

    4. To partake in practice education duties as requested by the Practice Education Lead or Nominee, including Zoned Academic visits, student assessment meetings and other liaisons with Practice Partners and Placement Providers.

    5. To act as a Personal Academic Tutor to Occupational Therapy students and learners.

    6. To participate in annual staff development and review processes and participate in appropriate training activities to meet the changing demands of the job.

    7. To participate in the recruitment of students, including selection events, open days and twilight events.

    8. To support meetings as required to represent the Occupational Therapy team and wider university.

    9. To participate fully in the life of the School and University by engaging in representational and ambassadorial activities in support of the Schools activities and carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Head of School or his/her nominee.

    10. Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job; participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff in their development and training.

    11. To take steps to ensure and enhance personal health, safety and well-being and that of other staff and students.

    Person Specification

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • A bachelors degree in occupational therapy or other relevant subject or profession.
  • Active professional registration with HCPC.
  • Desirable

  • Teaching qualification or HEA Fellowship.
  • A Masters degree in a relevant subject area.
  • Active membership of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT).
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Up-to-date knowledge, experience and expertise in occupational therapy / healthcare / other relevant profession / therapy.
  • Evidence of ongoing continuous professional development.
  • Desirable

  • Experience of clinical skills teaching and simulation for occupational therapy or other relevant profession.
  • Skills

    Essential

  • Ability to work as a cooperative team player across and between professions, with the ability to motivate and inspire students and colleagues to achieve shared objectives.
  • Effective organisation and prioritisation skills to independently manage a busy and varied workload, as well as provide support to colleagues.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and clearly through both oral and written means, with a wide range of stakeholders such as students, academic and support staff colleagues, and external partner representatives.
  • Suitable level of proficiency in ICT and an understanding of its application to teaching, learning, applied research and academic administration.

  • Ability and commitment to supervising student research projects.
