Description

Join us on-site in our unique open plan office and manufacturing space, or work from home to your own schedule and be paid per word published.

As a company of research scientists, we're more than happy for a great writer to fit this role around their ongoing commitments.

While we'd love to see you on-site to share in the experience of life at a fast-growing, high growth commercial enterprise, we understand that this may not be possible with a busy research schedule.

About The Role

To help us provide researchers around the world with first class customer support, we regularly collaborate with undergraduates, PhD students, and postdocs to create useful guides and resources covering a wide range of topics.

These are all available for free on our website, with no pay wall and no third-party banner ads.

We are currently looking for someone to write interesting and useful content that provides unique insight intohow solar simulators are used (or could be used) in your field of research
.

We are especially interested in how the Ossila Solar Simulator could be used within research of all disciplines.

Potential topics we are interested include how solar simulators can be used in:

  • Solar cell characterisation.
  • Lightdependent polymer degradation.
  • Studying photoinduced weathering/degradation of dyes.
  • Studying photobiological effects such as photosynthesis.
  • Measurement of photocatalysts.

If you're ready to share your best tips and tricks with the rest of the scientific community, or if you think you can write a great "getting started" or "introduction to" page, we want to hear from you.

This placement can take place on-site in our main office in Sheffield (with hours to suit you) or can take the form of flexible off-site freelancing (or some mix of the two).

On-site work is paid at £15/hour, but if you prefer to work from home, we will instead pay per word published at a rate of £250/1000 words.

Based on similar projects that we have run in the past, we anticipate that this will yield an effectively hourly rate of approximately £12/hour.

Other benefits include flexible work hours to fit around your research commitments and author credit on any webpage you write or contribute to.

In addition, you will be added to our bank of trusted writers and will get preferential treatment whenever we commission new copy.

About You

We are looking for someone who has been awarded, or is currently doing, a PhD in a STEM related discipline.

You must have a high degree of familiarity with, or hands-on experience of using, solar simulators.

You should also be comfortable writing content that meets the following criteria:

  • Concise, readable, and easily understood by an undergraduate student
  • Contains considerable detail and insight into a particular area of research
  • Follows styling that is consistent with other copy on the Ossila website
In addition, the ideal applicant has excellent comprehension of the English language and meets the following requirements:

  • Excellent scientific communication, writing skills and attention to detail
  • Flexible and able to respond to feedback
  • Communicative and comfortable working with inhouse teams
  • Ability to selfmanage and effectively plan work schedules
  • Highly organised and selfmotivated
