    Job summary

    Langworth Ward is an 18 bedded acute assessment ward for older adults experiencing complex BPSD. We are within the Older Persons and Frailty division and have been given the exciting opportunity to increase our establishment of nursing staff We are recruiting Band 6 senior acute care/dementia specialist nurse team members. We want people who are passionate and excited about working with people with dementia, who strive to deliver exceptional standards of care.

    The ward can be challenging, fast paced, it offers opportunities to support people at a transitional period of their life.

    We are committed to provide the support and training to ensure that all team members are equipped to work with people who have BPSD.

    Main duties of the job

    To be clinical leader of the team providing care for people with severe BPSD and mental health problems

    To provide clinical services that work within the policies, protocols and clinical procedures of Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Trust.

    To work as part of an MDT team providing a user-focused, accessible and responsive acute nursing service that is safe, supportive and competent for people who experience acute mental health problems and BPSD.

    To assess care needs and develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care for those who are experiencing BPSD and mental health needs, within agreed limitations.

    Patterns of working will be by arrangement and may include evenings, weekends, bank holidays.

    Provides management supervision to junior staff.

    To take on a Champion role of a special interest of yours - this could be: physical health, wound care, therapeutic interventions, safeguarding, care planning, and with this role you have the opportunity to lead on improvements on the ward and really stretch your practice.

    We understand the important of staff developing themselves personally and professionally, and we support this in a number of ways. Our Senior nurses are actively encouraged to attend development programmes and further training such as: Mary Seacole Leadership programme, Professional Nurse Advocate programme, Motivational interviewing, Cognitive Behaviour therapy training, Coaching, Leadership training, and more

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • RMN or RNLD or RN: 1st Level Registration (NMC) or degree or equivalent
  • Mentorship Module (degree level )
  • Evidence of specialised continued professional training (degree level) in clinical practice
  • Desirable

  • Certificate in clinical supervision
  • Management Training
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Relevant experience of working with adults with mental health needs. Or clear evidence of substantial experience of working with individuals in crisis and skills that are transferable to both the community/in-patient. Highly developed clinical reasoning skills.
  • Sound knowledge of the national agenda for mental health
  • Sound knowledge of clinical/risk assessment and understanding of Information Governance principles.

  • Experience of working within mental health care within the NHS

    Essential

  • Demonstrating supportive and sensitive communication to patients, carers and staff, whilst demonstrating an understanding of the nature and effects of information.
  • Delegation whilst maintaining overall responsibility for patient care, where appropriate.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead a clinical team
  • Understanding of safeguarding issues and ability to support colleagues move through appropriate process
