    Salford CAMHS are looking for a Learning Disability Nurse or Clinical Psychologist to work within our team to support young people with complex needs.


    This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a multi-agency team, working alongside clinical psychologists and community learning disability nurses to provide a service to children with severe learning disabilities and complex presentations of autism (aged up to 18).

    The post holder will be involved in running groups as well as holding their own individual caseload and be expected to support trainees, engage in training and be involved in consultation.

    The service works across all Thrive needs lead groupings and is committed to providing positive behavioural support using person centred formulations.


    We offer a robust supervision and development structure in terms of psychological therapies training within the Trust and across Greater Manchester to access specialist training in line with your own and the team's needs.

    Salford CAMHS sees service user feedback and participation as key components of service delivery and development.
    Delivery of service provision within the parameters of learning disability, in a multi-agency context.

    To provide specialist assessments of children and adolescents referred to the service based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of data from a variety of sources including structured assessments, self-report measures, direct observation and interviews with clients, family members and/or carers.

    You will provide evidence based therapy and you may do this in the workplace, at the young person's home or in schools.

    To attend MDT clinics as appropriate. To provide training, advice and consultation to staff from Education, health and other agencies.

    Doctoral degree in Clinical as accredited by the BPS or Registered Nurse Learning Disability
    Eligibility for BPS Chartered status/HCPC registration OR registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
    Pre-qualification training or recent experience with children and adolescents with learning disability and/or autism and/or evidence of having specialist placements in this area

    Additional qualifications relating to the assessment of autism e.g. ADI, ADOS training
    Significant experience post qualification in the field of paediatric learning disablities
    Additional post graduate training in psychological therapies and interventions
    Experience with working with children with autism and/or learning disabilities
    Experience of managing complex cases including those where children are CIN or have safeguarding issues
    Experience of consulting with health care and other professionals
    Experience of mentoring and supervision of others, including supporting the mental health and wellbeing of junior staff and trainees
    Experience of developing and providing evidenced based assessments, formulations, and care plans and effective use of ROMS

    Working knowledge of national strategic agendas relating to children and young people with learning disability and/or autism
    Ability to integrate psychological theories and outcome data with clinical practice and service provision
    The ability to reflect on and critically appraise own performance

    To be able to provide feedback and constructive guidance to junior members of the team and trainees to facilitate their personal and professional development.

    Knowledge relating to learning disability and autism, legislation relating to autism and children neurodiversity, autism assessment, paediatrics learning disability
    Up to date knowledge of child mental health and relevant legislation

    Ability to complete a functional analysis of behaviour
    Awareness of positive behaviour support
