    Description
    An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the Clinical Coding team at QVH.

    Clinical coding plays a crucial role in the management of the Trust as it directly influences income and forms the basis for clinical audit, clinical governance reporting, benchmarking, clinical performance indicators, information governance and medical research.


    The post holder will ensure that the clinical coding department runs effectively and undertake long-term planning, objective setting and the deliver of performance reviews, training, development and clinical audit in conjunction with the Head of Business Intelligence and Clinical Systems.

    Provide development support for clinical coders through regular appraisal and personal development plans with targeted training and mentoring where appropriate.

    Ensure coding deadlines are met.
    Maintain high levels of accuracy and completeness in clinical coding assured by audit.
    Rated GOOD overall with outstanding care by the CQC.

    We specialise in conditions of the eyes (corneoplastics), hands, head and neck cancer and skin cancer, reconstructive breast surgery, maxillofacial surgery and prosthetics, providing regional and national services in these areas of clinical expertise.

    We are fully committed to training and development of the workforce with support for continuing education and learning.
    Ensure adequate cover is in place managing sickness, annual leave, training and other absence.
    Represent the clinical coding department in meetings, providing specialist advice and support.
    Ensure appropriate and effective planning, communication and management of clinical coding projects which cross business units.
    Develop a culture of continuous improvement and service development.

    Regularly review and, if necessary, revise the department's working practices to take account of the department, Trust and NHS mandatory requirements.

    Ensure timely and accurate coding completion to satisfy the needs of contracting and commissioning targets.
    Evidence of attendance at a Clinical Coding Standards Refresher course within the last 3 years

    Supervisory/staff management experience
    Experience of training and mentoring junior staff
    Clinical coding experience in an Acute Trust

    Budgetary management experience
    Knowledge of the importance of clinical coding and its uses and an understanding of data quality issues
    Proficient in use of standard computer software packages

    Awareness of the impact of clinically coded data on Healthcare Resource Group (HRG) allocation
