Closing date: 23:45 on Friday 7th June 2024

The College of Arts & Humanities at the University of Glasgow is seeking to appoint a new member of academic staff to complement and extend the expertise, activities and future leadership of our Medical Humanities Research Centre. The post will be co-located both in the Research Centre and in any one of the College's other Schools/subjects and will contribute to teaching and/or research and external partnership in both areas and to developing interdisciplinary collaborations. This new, open-ended investment post demonstrates our commitment to further strengthening and building long-term capacity in Medical Humanities and to our emerging interest in Narrative Medicine as a field of enquiry and practice.

As part of our values-led approach, we are firmly committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive community in the College of Arts & Humanities. We particularly encourage applications from scholars who identify with underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds.

    About the role

The successful candidate will undertake research of international excellence in any field relating to the work of the Medical Humanities Research Centre and / or Medical Humanities more broadly. We are particularly interested in candidates who can develop scholarship, teaching, research and partnership in the field of Narrative Medicine and who can contribute their expertise in this, and related areas of Medical Humanities, to the activities of any one of the College's other Schools/subjects (and future REF UoAs). We also welcome applications from candidates with a track record in, or demonstrable commitment to, working in interdisciplinary teams and / or securing external funding.

The successful candidate will pursue external funding (via UKRI awards, consultancy and other routes) and they will contribute to knowledge exchange and impact activities relevant to their field of enquiry. They will teach and convene courses across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within the College of Arts & Humanities including the Intercalated BSc in Medical Humanities; they will supervise PGT and PGR students; work alongside other academic and Professional Service colleagues to enhance the student experience; deliver new courses and programmes and they will contribute to College and University initiatives to enhance interdisciplinary and cross-College research and teaching. They will undertake necessary administrative and service duties. They will develop and sustain strategic external partnerships locally, nationally and internationally – including with HEI and non-HEI partners..

This post is full-time (35 hours per week, Monday- Friday) and open-ended (permanent). Relocation assistance will be provided where appropriate.

Informal enquiries should be directed via email to Professor Jo Gill
