Description
Be a part of something amazing...
The Hamilton Kerr Institute (HKI) is a department of the Fitzwilliam Museum and is one of the world's leading centres for teaching and research in paintings conservation. The Fitzwilliam Museum has Conservation departments for works on paper, books, manuscript conservation as well as for objects and antiquities. Our excellent Heritage Science facilities are spread between the Fitzwilliam Museum and The Hamilton Kerr Institute. The postholder will be part of the Scientific Research team, working across both Institutions.
The purpose of this role is to carry out technical research and scientific analysis of objects and artworks in the collections of the Fitzwilliam Museum, artworks under treatment at the HKI, as well as participate in collaborative research projects across the University of Cambridge. The role holder will investigate and document individual objects and works of art with a combination of non-invasive techniques and scientific imaging in particular, such as Macro-X-Ray Fluorescence scanning, Infrared Reflectography, Hyperspectral Imaging, as well as invasive techniques such as sampling, and microscopy techniques including Scanning Electron Microscopy.
Come and join our wonderful multidisciplinary team. We are seeking a proactive team player with effective communication skills, as much of their work will require interdisciplinary collaboration with other scientists as well as with curators, conservators and scholars and students from across the University and beyond.
In return we offer an encouraging and supportive environment, an attractive pension scheme and many employee benefits such as a shopping discounts scheme.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check and a security check.
