We prioritize enhancing emerging technologies to provide unique solutions to specialized areas of the Met.

To truly grasp our cutting-edge technologies and their role in safeguarding the public and combating crime in London, witnessing them firsthand is key.

The Technology, Research, and Innovation (TRI) team ensures the Met remains at the forefront of technology. Our work is exceptionally inventive, with each project presenting a new challenge.

As an Electronics Development Engineer, your role within the Electronics System Development (ESD) team involves crafting tailored electronic solutions to address specific business needs.

This position offers a distinct chance for an Electronics Development Engineer with design expertise to join a dynamic engineering and scientific team where you can advance your engineering skills.

You will utilize state-of-the-art equipment within a multidisciplinary environment to conceive unique electronic solutions, contributing to a safer London.

Working alongside a passionate and dedicated Electronics team, you will oversee the design and execution of reliable solutions throughout the entire design process, from understanding customer requirements to devising innovative design concepts and transforming them into fully operational products or systems for practical use.

The role is diverse, and in a typical day, you may engage in various activities encompassing all facets of electronics hardware and embedded software design such as Schematic capture, PCB designs, as well as building and prototyping solutions.

You will develop test specifications, rigorously test devices pre-deployment, and furnish precise reports. Additionally, you will partake in project meetings, design reviews, and interact with clients or suppliers.

Remaining abreast of emerging technologies is essential. Evaluating and selecting electronic products or components based on defined criteria or adapting commercially available products may be necessary.

Your responsibilities may also extend to line management, including offering guidance, mentorship, and upskilling to ensure knowledge and skills remain current.

You will have opportunities to attend various trade shows and training programs with support for continuous professional development.

You might also have the chance to engage in occasional operational fieldwork alongside operational colleagues and officers to trial or pilot ESD's designs.

Support will be provided for you to pursue professional engineering registration.

This role involves access to highly classified intelligence material daily. Candidates must have or be willing to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) before commencing the role, with a readiness to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) post-appointment, if necessary.

However, in cases where potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed, the incumbent will be precluded from accessing the intelligence material and performing their duties.

To uphold national security and comply with Cabinet Office Policy, as supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), candidates lacking Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) OR Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meeting nationality stipulations will not be considered for the role.
