    Description

    The Point of Care Testing (POCT) department within Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS) provides and supports and governs near-patient pathology diagnostic testing conducted outside of the traditional central laboratory.


    The BSPS POCT network includes Frimley Health (Frimley Park Hospital, Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals), The Royal Surrey County Hospital (Guildford), Ashford and St Peter's Hospital (Chertsey), The Royal Berkshire Hospital (Reading), East Surrey Hospital (Redhill) along with multiple and expanding projects within the community.

    Assess the suitability of proposed testing environments.
    Perform comprehensive method evaluations to ensure acceptable analytical performance.
    Deliver initial training and re-certification, ensuring sufficient staff competency to ultimately benefit patient safety.
    Ensure calibration, internal quality control and external quality control performance is maintained.

    The post-holder will be an HCPC-registered, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and skilled Biomedical Scientist, with a background in a pathology discipline relevant to POCT, preferably with POCT and commercial experience.

    They will lead in the provision of efficient, effective and reliable POCT laboratory services to users within the BSPS network.

    They will be responsible for the oversight of community-based POCT including Trust initiatives such as Virtual Ward, Hospital at Home, Community Diagnostic Centres, under the banner of BSPS POCT LabKit(TM).

    HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist with Minimum 2 Years Experience
    Post Graduate Degree or IBMS Fellowship (or working towards)

    Understanding of Biomedical Principles
    Experience with Laboratory IT Networking

    Evidence of Planning and Delivery of Projects
    Able to Independently and Efficiently Travel to Trust/Community Sites

    Commercial Understanding or Experience of POCT
    Experience with Virtual Ward/Hospital at Home/CDC/UTC Settings
