    Job Summary

    Are you searching for an exciting career opportunity to enhance your clinical skills in a specialized area and contribute to service improvement? Do you want to be part of a supportive and forward-thinking team? If yes, Cardiff and Vale (C&V) Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) have a role tailored for you.

    As a dedicated Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) with a focus on dementia care, you will become a valuable member of our Mental Health SLT Team. You will receive ongoing support through supervision, appraisal, and peer assistance. Engage in service development projects and take part in research endeavors.

    Main Duties of the Job

    - Work with a diverse client base across different age groups, including the Young Onset Dementia (YOD) team at the Cariad Centre, Barry Hospital.

    - Perform thorough swallowing and communication assessments and provide holistic management within the community.

    - Engage in inpatient and outpatient experiences to enhance your skills, including time spent in MHSOP wards and the Memory Assessment Service.

    - Contribute to the development and delivery of a new SLT training program for staff and carers, fostering innovation in patient care.

    - Fluency in Welsh is advantageous for this role, and applications from English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcomed.

    - This is a Band 6 part-time position, and experienced Band 5 therapists may be considered for the right candidate.

    Qualifications

    Essential

    • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
    • HCPC Registration
    • Post Graduate training in Dysphagia
    • Undertaken relevant short courses/CPD in specialist area

    Desirable

    • Membership of relevant Clinical Excellence Network
    • Membership of RCSLT

    Experience

    Essential

    • Clinical experience working with communication/swallowing problems
    • Specialist caseload experience
    • Collaboration with an MDT and others
    • Providing clinical support to others

    Desirable

    • Experience in a community setting

    • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
