    Description

    We are seeking to appoint a Trust Grade Senior House Officer within the Trauma and Orthopaedic directorate at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust.

    The successful applicant will have completed their basic surgical training and wish to specialise in Orthopaedics but have not yet achieved an ST post.

    The successful applicant will have some Orthopaedic experience.

    The post is not recognised by the Postgraduate Dean for the purposes of training, but excellent training and research opportunities are available within the post.

    The post holder will join other Orthopaedic CT 1& 2 trainees and Trust Grade SHO's and participate in the on-call rota

    The Main duties of the role is to provide medical cover for any patient admitted under the care of Trauma & Orthopaedics, as directed by the Consultants team in charge of care.

    This duty happens during all shifts on the roster from on call to ward based cover. Treatment plan and actions are to be provided alongside the Registrar, FY1 Dr and the teams Surgical care practitioners.

    The junior doctor accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultant, in consultation where practicable with their colleagues both senior and junior.

    It has been agreed between the professions and the Department that while juniors accept that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this subsection are exceptional and in particular that juniors should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.

    Facilities for study leave are in line with current guidelines and there are postgraduate medical education courses available.
    The post is not recognised for training by the Deanery.

    Post holders are actively encouraged to be involved in research projects and publication and will be expected to complete audit projects.

    Working towards a post-graduate qualification
    Understands current clinical issues in Orthopaedics
    Aware of own limitations, consults senior colleagues appropriately and knows when to ask for help.
    Understands the principles of patient confidentiality and data protection
    Understands the principles of clinical governance - ensures patients are not put at risk

    Knowledge of UK health systems and practices including the relationship between primary and secondary care and inter professional relationships.

    Computer literate
    Understands the importance and impact of information systems in health care.
    Potential to benefit from the training available i.e., Understands the purpose and process of basic professional training.
    Organisation and planning, teaching and research
    Able to communicate clearly in written and spoken English e.g., Evidence of leadership qualities (not necessarily in medicine
