    The FCA's Advanced Analytics department is looking for a talented, motivated and technology-savy individual with varied experience and backgrounds to join our enthusiastic and diverse AI Strategy Team. We sit within the FCA's Data, Technology and Innovation Division (DTI), which is at the forefront of transforming the FCA as we meet the demands of a digital regulatory future.

    We support the FCA to be an innovative and forward-thinking regulator. We protect consumers and markets, encourage competition and enable innovative financial services firms to be the best they can be.

    We are currently recruiting for one Senior Associate in our Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy Team:

    The AI Strategy Team is a team within the Advanced Analytics department. The team has a particular focus on the impact – current and future - AIhas on UK financial markets, including markets and consumers. In this role you will work closely with academics, financial institutions as well asdomestic and international regulators in analysing the impact of the technology on financial markets and sharing those insights with external and internal peers. You will develop a deep knowledge of the regulatory debate around AI, current AI deployment in financial servicesand current governance approaches. This will feed into the FCA's strategy, policy and digital transformation agenda on AI. You will also support developing the FCA's own AI applications.

You will work very closely with our Supervision, Policy, Legal, International and Emerging Technology teams.     What you will be doing (the role)

  • Work with colleagues in Policy,Supervision, Innovation,Legal and International to support pro-innovation AI deployment by regulated firms
  • Drive stakeholder engagement with the broader domestic and international AI ecosystem to build strong relationships and identify key challenges that the use of AI in UK financial markets gives rise to and for which a regulatory response may need to be developed
  • Research and analyse market developments, working closely with colleagues at the Bank of England and the Digital Regulation Cooperation Forum (DRCF)
  • Build FCA thought leadership on the use of AI in financial markets, taking a holistic approach that also includes technical standards and the AI assurance debate
  • Support the work of the AI Programme Board as well as colleagues who are developing AI applications for the FCA's own regulatory purposes
  • Translate insights and analysis into meaningful actions for the FCA, for example by contributing to external publications or workshops

    The skills and experience you will have

    Minimum

    We are a signatory to the Government's Disability Confident scheme. This means that we will offer an interview to disabled candidates entering under the scheme, should they meet the minimum criteria for a role.

  • Ability to build internal and external networks and forge working relationships with key stakeholders, particularly among academia, industry and the community of domestic and global peers
  • Proficiency to communicate clearly and succinctly(including drafting FCA internal and external documents)
  • Good understanding of the debate on regulation of technology
  • Essential

  • Ability to forge robust and meaningful relationships at all levels, and across a broad range of stakeholders, to achieve positive outcomes
  • Strong analytical (including drafting) skills
  • Demonstrable experience in successfully taking initiatives from planning to implementation / delivery stage
  • Some technical understanding of current technologies; no detailed knowledge of AI is required
  • Some understanding of the UK and international financial services regulatory systems
  • Evidence of a self-starting approach to learning and delivery
  • An open mind-set and a willingness to rethink when new evidence emerges
  • Enjoying the opportunities and challenges that come from working in multi-disciplinary and diverse teams at the cutting edge of technology and financial services regulation
