    Job summary

    Are you a Speech and Language therapist looking for a new challenge? We are looking for a motivated, dynamic Band 5 SALT to join our South Gloucestershire team.

    Our clinical teams are required to work a range of shifts over 7 days between 8am-4pm. A driving licence and access to your own transport is required.

    Across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, health, care and voluntary sector partners are working together to improve services for people affected by stroke. This includes work to improve the prevention of stroke, as well as to provide the best possible stroke emergency care, rehabilitation and care at home once individuals are discharged from hospital. Our vision is to provide seamless, multidisciplinary care, so local people have the best opportunity to survive and thrive after stroke.

    About the team

    ICSS at Home aims to reduce the length of time that people are in hospital by providing high quality home-based rehabilitation, helping individuals achieve their personal goals. We also provide advice and support to reduce the likelihood of further strokes and help people live well as they recover.

    The care is provided by a multi-disciplinary team . Our team support people from the day they are discharged from hospital or a rehabilitation unit. This includes personal care and meal preparation, working side by side with voluntary sector keyworkers to support service users in the best way possible.

    Main duties of the job

    As a Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist in our ICSS you will:

  • Provide specialist speech and language therapy assessment, diagnosis and treatment to adults with communication and swallowing problems within the adult SLT service and stroke team
  • Work independently with the support and supervision of clinical lead
  • Work in patients homes and community
  • Work with members of the multidisciplinary stroke team, including nursing, therapists, and assistant staff
  • Be involved in ongoing training to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Be part of a wider network of SLTs in Sirona including peer supervision and support
  • Receive clinical and operational leadership from the Clinical Specialist SLT for stroke

    Person Specification

    Experience

    Essential

  • Relevant experience of working with adults with communication and swallowing difficulties in a variety of settings
  • Competent in performing communication assessments and interventions with a variety of presenting conditions
  • Thorough and contemporary knowledge of SLT theory and best practice at the level of a newly qualified therapist
  • Knowledge of national standards and guidelines affecting provision of stroke services
  • Able to work independently, take initiative and manage own caseload
  • Awareness of current level of competence in dysphagia practice and areas for development
  • Desirable

  • Experience of working with people with stroke or neurological conditions
  • Experience of service improvement or quality projects audit, service user engagement or service initiatives
  • Qualifications

    Essential

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Qualification
  • HCPC Registration
  • Desirable

  • Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy
