    About us

The Royal Free HIV Service, part of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, is a globally recognised Centre of Excellence for HIV care. Catering to over 3000 HIV patients, it offers inpatient and outpatient services, including specialized clinics in various fields like viral hepatitis, TB, cardiology, and psychiatry. The department emphasizes network-level care and collaborates extensively within the North Central London Network. With a dedicated research team, it actively engages in clinical trials, notably for new antivirals and HIV infections. Additionally, the Royal Free has launched a vaccine trial research team, conducting large-scale prevention vaccine trials across various infections, building on its success with Covid vaccine trials.

In contrast, the North Middlesex University Hospital HIV service serves a diverse population, largely from Enfield and Haringey boroughs, with many patients from deprived backgrounds or born abroad. The Alexander Pringle Centre provides outpatient and inpatient HIV care, hosting specialist clinics like the Young Persons' clinic and Antenatal clinic. Noteworthy achievements include leading the Opt-Out Blood Borne Viruses testing program and winning the Chief Executive Award at the 2023 North Middlesex Staff Awards.
