    Job Purpose

    To contribute to the activities of the Division of Equine Clinical Sciences, School of Biodiversity, One Health and Veterinary Medicine by developing, leading, and contributing to the clinical service offered by Glasgow Equine Practice.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities Clinical: 1. To develop further and contribute to the clinical service offered by Glasgow Equine Practice.2. To provide effective leadership to the practice staff by working together with School Management, Professional and Administrative staff to ensure that it runs efficiently.3. To develop and continually update personal skills and knowledge as appropriate to equine practice in support of clinical, teaching and scholarship activities4. To develop clinical activity which stimulates significant growth in practice caseload and Glasgow Equine Hospital caseload through referral of patients5. To participate in promotional activities and events relating to the practice6. To participate in the practice's out-of-hours service, ensuring adequate cover. This is currently a 1 in 4 rota, which is subject to change7. To ensure that clinical quality assurance measures are in place and validated8. Lead in clinical governance within the practice, ensuring compliance with RCVS practice standards.9. To develop a prominent professional profile locally and nationally/internationally, focusing on areas where there is synergy with the Division's and School's activities10.

    To ensure compliance with the continuing professional development requirements of Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in relationship to membership and to maintenance of any postgraduate qualifications
    Teaching: 11. To contribute to the planning, organisation, delivery and development of the School's learning and teaching activities, focusing on final year BVMS students in the practice setting, as directed by the Head of Division in consultation with the course leaders12. To contribute to the delivery of a range of assessment activities (using a variety of methods and techniques), engage fully in the examination process and provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning13. To develop, and encourage the development of, creative and innovative approaches to teaching and learning, in accordance with the University's Quality Enhancement Strategy, so that the educational opportunities available to students are maintained or improved

    Scholarship: 14. To complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice and other components of the Early Career Development Programme at the University of Glasgow15. To engage in personal scholarship which is synergistic with day-to-day activities resulting in personal development and an enhanced external reputation16. To develop opportunities for interdisciplinary and collaborative clinical research, primarily with staff within the Division, School and wider University but also with staff in other Schools, Colleges, Universities and other clinical organisations where appropriate17. To contribute to clinical research projects/trials through input to design, application for funding, execution and dissemination of findings18. To attend and actively contribute/participate in national/international events/ seminars/conferences as appropriate to area of scholarship by invitation or otherwise

    Administration: 19. Identify future trends; strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to shape the strategic direction of the practice for growth and efficiency.20. Contribute to performance and development review processes of staff working within the practice in accordance with University Strategy.21. To act, as directed by the Head of Division, to advance the personal development of staff working within the practice22. Manage allocated budget and resources effectively and control expenditure to ensure delivery of the service within budgetary constraints.23.

    To facilitate scholarship and provide mentorship to junior clinical staff, staff associated with the practice and assist with the identification, planning, organisation and delivery of training requirements by supervision of clinical duties and research projects
    Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience Knowledge/Qualifications Essential: A1. Veterinary degree, registerable with the RCVS prior to commencing employment.
    A2.

    Postgraduate/ further clinical qualification relevant to equine practice, e.g., RCVS Certificate, RCVS Advanced Practitioner status, or evidence of development of advanced clinical skills relevant to equine practice.

    A3.Evidence of ability to demonstrate the necessary strategic competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary professional and leadership experience in a similar role.

    Desirable: B1. Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, Recognising Excellence in Teaching or equivalent

    Skills Essential: C1. Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality clinical service in equine 1st opinion practice.
    C2. Broad expertise of equine practice, corresponding to training, experience and qualifications.
    C3. Evidence of business management skills.
    C4. High standard of oral and written communication skills and presentation skills.
    C5. Self-motivated, able to think strategically and plan for contingencies.
    C6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    C7. Ability to accept collegiate responsibilities and act accordingly.

    Experience Essential: E1. Proven experience of management of own case load in equine practice.
    E2. Evidence of managing and developing a team. E3
    . Experience of managing budgetary requirements.
    E4. Evidence of experience in teaching, especially of veterinary undergraduate students.
    E5. Proven experience of communicating clinical information effectively to owners individually in relation to their horses.
    E6. Evidence of leading initiatives which resulted in an increase in practice caseload.
    E7. Evidence of supervision and mentorship of junior colleagues.

    Desirable: F1. Evidence of contribution to clinical research. Terms and Conditions Salary will be Grade 9, £57,696 - £64,914 per annum, plus an Out of Hours supplement of £4,000 per annum This post is full time and open ended.
