    Job summary

    A opportunity has arisen in the Clinical Support Services Division for an Assistant Service Manager role to support the Pre-Analytical/Phlebotomy service within Pathology.

    Our on-the-the-job training will help you to develop leadership and management skills and learn to manage high-volume services.

    You will work directly with the General Manager, Clinical Leads, and the Service Manager to help ensure day-to-day service running, working in partnerships with support services to deliver the best possible outcomes to our patients.

    Main duties of the job

    The assistant service manager will work closely with the General manager for Pathology to provide a highly effective and efficient service delivery for the division. The post holder will have an operational lead role for all administrative functions with additional responsibilities, working under the direction of the service manager. They will be a member of the Pathology Service Leads Team

    The post holder will have a key role in delivering the operational plan and supporting the divisional strategy. The post holder will work closely with other divisions and corporate departments, procurement, finance, workforce and organisational development to improve the quality and effectiveness of all services provided. The post holder will provide effective service management in respect of business planning, finance, human resources, health and safety and general operational issues.

    The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) provides a full range of general acute, outpatient and diagnostic services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, the Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishop's Stortford, and St Margaret's Hospital in Epping.

    We employ 3,500 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop's Stortford and Epping. Our extended catchment area incorporates a population of up to 500,000 and includes the areas of Hoddesdon, Cheshunt and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.

    Experience

    Essential

  • NHS management experience
  • Evidence of involvement in strategic management planning and achievements in management situations.
  • Responsibility for performance management, demand and capacity, and meeting challenging targets including significant experience of waiting list management
  • Previous Financial Management experience (including budget management, delivery of Cost Improvements Plans etc).
  • Evidence of involvement in project work involvements in the development of policies and procedures.
  • Evidence of leading the implementation of a change issue.
