Case Officer – Perimeter Team - London, United Kingdom - Financial Conduct Authority

    Default job background
    Full time
    Description

Salary: London up to £57,400 and National up to £52,200

Are you interested in joining a team tackling unauthorised activity and protecting consumers from harm?

The Financial Promotions & Enforcement Taskforce (FPET) is a department straddling the regulatory perimeter. The department has a wide remit covering both authorised and unauthorised business and the overlap between regulated and unregulated firms covering all sectors across the FCA. The department brings together teams from Enforcement, Intelligence, Supervision and Policy – leveraging synergies and intelligence from both sides of the perimeter. FPET's overarching role is to reduce harm arising from:

  • non-compliant financial promotions issued by authorised firms
  • unauthorised activity, scams, fraud and breaches of the Financial Promotions Order by unauthorised entities
  • scams and high-risk products where authorised firms are involved in the production and distribution of products
  • other unregulated activity conducted by authorised firms that has the potential to cause significant customer harm and financial loss
  • We are looking for a Case Officer to join the FPET Perimeter Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on high-profile cases of public importance. As part of a specialist team dealing with unauthorised firms which are targeting UK based consumers, you will develop a greater body of knowledge and intelligence around these firms, how best to identify them and any repeat offenders behind them to develop more effective solutions to target this conduct. In addition, you will be involved in critical work in relation to the disruption of many of these firms' activities.

    What you will be doing

  • Managing a busy workload of cases relating to a variety of unauthorised firms which includes assessing reports of unauthorised activity, acting to resolve matters and issue alerts where appropriate
  • Analysing the unauthorised firm's activities, managing high volumes of information and driving actions to stop unauthorised conduct
  • Drafting technical correspondence to external persons regarding concerns about breaches of the perimeter
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues in other business areas within the FCA and with external bodies
  • Responding to ad-hoc queries about unauthorised business from other areas of the FCA
  • Contributing to wider Consumer Investments strategic work
  • What you will get from the role

  • A chance to work on cases of public importance as part of a specialist team, developing our knowledge and understanding about these serious financial services cases
  • An opportunity to gain knowledge and experience within a supportive environment committed to learning and development
  • An opportunity to widen your experience and optimise your skills in analysis, data entry, drafting and risk assessment
  • A chance to do satisfying, worthwhile and responsible work with the opportunity to use your professional skills to build a long-term solution for these important cases
  • Our competitive flexible benefits scheme gives you the opportunity to create a personalised benefits package, tailored to suit your lifecycle. You can use this allowance to purchase additional benefits such as dental or cycle to work or you have the option top up your base salary by taking this as cash.

Core benefits that you will receive as standard are:

  • 25 days holiday per year
  • Private healthcare with Bupa
  • A non-contributory Pension of at least 8% of basic salary each month (there are several contribution levels that increase depending on your age – up to 12% a month once you reach age 35).
  • Life assurance of eight times your basic salary
  • Income protection
  • We support hybrid working which means you will be able to work from home up to 60% of the time over a month with the remainder of your time in one of our three office locations.

The skills and experience you will have

We are a signatory to the Government's Disability Confident scheme. This means that we will offer an interview to disabled candidates entering under the scheme, should they meet the minimum criteria for a role.

    Minimum

  • Experience of document and evidence management
  • Experience of dealing with a large number of cases and managing competing work streams often under tight deadlines
  • Experience in developing and/or supporting a project strategy including identifying key risks and putting in place steps to mitigate those risks and splitting the project into relevant work streams
  • Essential

  • Knowledge of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (particularly the Regulated Activities Order) and the structure, principles and responsibilities of the FCA
  • Ability to manage a large workload, giving due attention to the most serious and high priority matters
  • Ability to assess and analyse voluminous and/or data-heavy bodies of information, exercising judgement on the information available and being able to defend those judgements where appropriate, including to senior management
  • Good written skills with ability to summarise issues in a comprehensive and concise manner
  • Ability to draft straightforward documents and technical correspondence
  • Ability to perform basic research and organise information in a comprehensive manner
  • Willingness to accept ownership of tasks carried out and exercise own judgement
