About Adel Mohamad:
Graduated from London Metropolitan University with BA (Hons) in English language studies and master’s degree (MA) in Interpreting. I am a native Arabic speaker, fluent in English with long-standing experience using both languages professionally. I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists.
I have excellent communication and organisational skills as well as exceptional time management skills. I enjoy multi-tasking while working under pressure and keeping focused to resolve and foresee problems. I am flexible working independently and as part of a team to achieve high business productivity. I have strong IT skills including solid skills using MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PP.
Knowing the MENA region, its language and the culture help immensely to fit into a new challenging role as an in-house interpreter/ translator/ editor/ proof-reader.
Experience
My recent experience working as a translator and interpreter was on my five years long role as an international patient coordinator at the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals NHS Trust (now part of St Thomas' Hospital) which entailed daily accurate medical interpreting (from and into English and Arabic) between private international patients and the medical staff in all hospital departments in outpatients and inpatients settings. This included interpreting face to face, over the phone and during online sessions. I interpreted for patients during medical consultations in outpatients, also during them having their scans and tests and follow ups. I also was based in inpatients where I interpreted for admitted patients on wards, ICU, HDU, recovery and theatres.
My role also involved various translation tasks of all sorts of medical information booklets and hospital brochures for patients, pre and post operations. I oversaw all translation work into Arabic Language which also involved translating preparation information for tests and procedures, safety instructions for patients and visitors, hospital Facebook and twitter posts, adverts for new innovative surgical techniques, advanced procedures, and consultants' portfolios.
The admin part of the job further entailed using Arabic and English professionally while liaising on daily basis with different hospital departments, the medical offices and embassies sponsoring international patients. I was consistently using Arabic and English on the phone coordinating tests, booking appointments and arranging admissions, getting feedback and medical input and relaying that over to the medical offices, stakeholders and patients' families. I also liaised with medical secretaries and consultants regarding the finance side of things such as requesting guarantee letters and chasing invoices.
I worked for Thomson Reuters for three years as an Arabic speaking product analyst. During my time there, I was using Arabic and English on daily basis where I conducted daily online training sessions for clients in the MENA region. I worked within the training Ops team and acted as a second line support team. My role involved using my language skills to translate compliance online courses for clients in the Middle East. I communicated with these clients on daily basis using both Arabic and English within a professional environment. I trained clients’ admins on using different online portals and helped them roll out online courses and troubleshot their systems wherever there was a technical difficulty. I also used both Arabic and English while coordinating with various teams such as sales, production team, account managers, project managers, design team, quality assurance team, and the IT department not to forget different stakeholders and external vendors.
Moreover, I had worked for the Royal embassy of Saudi Arabia, the cultural Bureau in London for two years as an Academic Advisor whilst using both Arabic and English professionally was at the heart of my daily tasks. My role as an Academic advisor entailed liaising between different university departments, stakeholders and Ministry of Education in Saudi Arabia. This involved using Arabic and English while sending progress reports on students unto their sponsors, providing feedback, following up on students’ issues through online portal and during face to face meetings with the office managers, heads of departments and on the other end with UK universities and its leaders.
