  1. Locum Biomedical Scientist ( Biochemistry Department) – Worcestershire Royal Hospital – June 2022 – To date

 

 

  • Beckman Coulter Analysers Experience (in-depth knowledge of Chemistry Analysers AU5800 and Immunoassays DXI 600) and their extensive troubleshooting in accordance to the in-vitro medical devices regulation (IVDR)
  • The use of Winpath and Remisol to validate and authorise results for clinicians to receive patient data on ICE reporting platform
  • Day to day running of the laboratory performing routine and specialist analytical testing on a range of biological samples and reporting accurate results

  • Develop and maintain valuable stakeholder relationships worldwide (Yemen, Syria, Sudan)

  • To perform routine and specialist analytical testing on a range of biological samples such as blood, urine, and CSF/Xanthochromia samples 
  • Giving test results to medical staff such as nurses and doctors, who use the information to diagnose and treat patient's illnesses 
  • Processing HCG, Troponin, BNP and PTH samples on the Roche E411

 

  • Processing patient samples in good time and making sure that turnaround times for reporting results are achieved and adhering to CLSI guidelines 
  • Being able to prioritise workload and perform urgent analytical testing as required for example prioritising urgent paediatric CSF samples over routine osmolality testing on urine samples 
  • Identifying abnormal or unexpected results and reporting them back to requesting clinicians 
  • Being able to maintain and run specialist lab equipment performing calibration and quality control checks on Abbott analysers such as the C4000 or Ci4000 and immunoassays 
  • To maintain and order stocks of materials and answer telephone enquiries about test results and other general lab issues 
  • Accurately processing and recording EQA data results to generate reports and sharing results with external quality control companies such as NEQAS and WEQAS

  •  Working under the supervision of Biochemistry sub-specialist leads for the day-to-day running of the laboratory 
  • To attend departmental meetings as required whether it be scientific or technical  
  • To assist in the implementation of local policies and suggest changes to work practices and procedures where applicable 
  •  To perform general laboratory and technical duties under BMS supervision in workstations within Biochemistry

  • Receive samples from various companies and book them into the laboratory information management system (Exova Login/LIMS) in order to process samples into the laboratory 
  • Carry out laboratory food and water microbiology tests (Legionella and Pseudomonas) to ensure compliance under food and trading law 
  • Processing test orders on a daily basis 
  • Assisting with any ad-hoc duties as required
