The Industry Placement Advisor Role**:

The Industry Placements Advisor is a cross College role situated within the People & Student Experience Directorate.

The aim is to ensure that students have the best possible academic and pastoral support, enabling them to achieve and develop to their fullest potential.

There is a student-centred approach to support that is flexible to meet individual needs while promoting independence in preparation for the world of employment or further study.


Our dynamic, highly qualified and committed Team comprises of specialists in Personal Development, Careers and Employability, Safeguarding, Wellbeing and Pastoral Support as well as the Student Union, Inclusion and Student Voice.


This role will work closely alongside the Careers Advisors, Personal Development Tutors and the Business Development Team, as well as other key departments supporting employability and industry placements across the College.

An essential aspect of the role is to work closely with colleagues across all curriculum areas to ensure students are prepared for their industry placements opportunities.


Responsibilities as our Industry Placement Advisor will include:

  • Being responsible for sourcing, preparing and placing students on work placements and work-related learning for our full-time students on Study Programmes, including T-Levels
  • Prepare Level 2 and Level 3 students for a minimum of 45 days' industry placements
  • Plan and carry out visits to students on industry placements
  • Evaluate work placement impact on student learning, progress and destination
  • Support and motivate students to develop and expand their employability skills, ensuring they are well prepared for their work placement
  • Working with the other members of the college and other crosscollege departments to deliver high levels of student participation, satisfaction, success and progression

As our Industry Placement Advisor you'll
ideally have:

  • Knowledge of the skills and personal qualities needed by students for the employment sector/organisations for which they are being prepared
  • Experience of building rapport and strong relationships with clients
  • Experience of working with students and an understanding of how to integrate vocational practice and academic study
  • Skills in assessing the progress of students
  • Confidence and experience dealing with external customers such as employers
  • Commitment to helping students in their personal development
  • Minimum GCSE level 2 in English and Maths or equivalent
  • Level 2 in Safeguarding (or commitment to complete Level 2 prior to commencing employment)
  • Ability to travel to student work placements or use of a vehicle for placement visits
  • Valid vehicle insurance that includes business use
