Description
Advert textFoxwood Academy is looking for an Assistant Headteacher and SENCO for September 2024 or sooner.
This position has arisen after the promotion of the current post holder to a headteacher role in the county. This is an incredibly exciting time to be joining the Foxwood team. Plans are underway to invest in a multi-million pound new-build and refit of our current campus to increase our numbers from 112 to over 250 children and young people. The role involves having oversight and responsibility for behaviour and wellbeing, therapy provision and safeguarding.
We welcome applicants from the special and mainstream sectors and offer training and support to help the right candidate grow into the position. The role would involve two days of class teaching. We welcome applicants who have not yet completed their SENCO award but would expect them to be fully qualified within two years of starting.
The successful candidate will play a vital part in the planning and development of the new secondary campus and redevelopment of the primary campus and will hopefully see it from conception to opening in 2027.
Foxwood Academy is a friendly 4-18 special Academy in Nottinghamshire, we were graded good by Ofsted in October 2017 and again in March 2023. We have recently merged with a very local multi academy trust and see ourselves as a truly inclusive school. As we build our new school, our neighbouring secondary school are likely to start building their new school making the overall investment in our 'learning village' one of the biggest educational investments in the country. As you can imagine, we are very excited.
Our students needs are varied but in general we cater for children and young people with moderate and severe learning difficulties. Many of our children and young people have a diagnosis of Autism and a proportion have additional speech and language needs. Many of our children have spent time in mainstream settings but move to Foxwood for a more specialised environment and curriculum.
Our children and young people are amazing, we consider special education to be the best kept secret in education and so we actively welcome applicants from both mainstream and special sectors. Training is available and many of our teachers and support staff come from a variety of educational backgrounds.
Progression for students through the Academy is via different pathways to meet the diverse needs of the children. The Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) framework is used as a part of our curriculum and includes outstanding provision in preparing young people for employment and their futures. We offer accreditation to our 14-19 year old young people from Entry Level 1 up to GCSE level.
We are looking for a candidate who will:
• Lead on Safeguarding, behaviour and therapy provision across the Academy.
• Support staff, children and families and work closely with governors and external agencies.
• Understand and commit to our values.
• Be able to lead and deliver our behaviour principles.
• Work with staff to develop behaviour plans, risk assessments and ensure that the personal development of our children is exemplary.
• Maintain records of CPD, professional development and signpost staff and stakeholders to training
• Be able to work with small groups of children and young people with additional needs and provide education and opportunities to give them the best start in life.
• Be an excellent and reflective classroom practitioner with high expectations of all children and young people.
• Be able to lead, plan and develop creative, stimulating and appropriate learning activities;
• Be able to effectively track student progress, attainment, attendance and analyse data effectively;
• Be able to use assessment data to put into place a range of intervention strategies to ensure that all pupils make good progress and achieve high standards;
• Be able to engage and support parents and students in the Academy;
• Be able to work in collaboration with governors, support staff, phase leaders and external agencies to ensure all students achieve the best possible outcomes; have the ability to motivate, enthuse, engage and inspire our children, young people and staff.
We will offer you:
• A positive and caring ethos and working environment;
• A committed, friendly, welcoming and supportive staff team;
• Excellent support from the headteacher, senior leadership team and governing body;
• High quality and bespoke professional and career development opportunities;
• Opportunities and potential for future more senior positions. Two members of staff have moved on this term to be Headteachers in Nottinghamshire.
The White Hills Park Trust comprises six successful schools across Nottinghamshire, three primary, two secondary (one of which includes a sixth form) and a special school and we expect that we will continue to grow over time. We are a partnership of schools, united by shared ethos and values, working in deep collaboration to give all our children the best possible start in life. Our mission is to provide the very best opportunities and outcomes for young people, and our staff work closely together to deliver high quality teaching and learning, share good practice, pool resources and participate in joint projects for the benefit of pupils. Our schools retain their independence, each with their own leadership, management and distinct character. However, we have a shared ethos and common values and we believe that we are stronger together.
Interviews: Thursday 23 May 2024
The White Hills Park Trust is an equal opportunities employer committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children. The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance and checks will be made with past employers. In line with safer recruitment policies, references will be called prior to interview and online searches may be carried out on shortlisted candidates as part of due diligence checks.
