    We are recruiting for a 12 month Secondment or 12 Month fixed term contract as a Safeguarding Children Nurse Specialist/ Paediatric Liaison Lead Nurse. We are looking for someone who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

    An exciting opportunity to join a dynamic safeguarding team has arisen. We require a dynamic, highly motivated and committed practitioner to work with health and multiagency colleagues to ensure the provision of safe and effective services to safeguard vulnerable children across Hertfordshire.

    The post holder will be a fundamental part of the safeguarding team and work closely with the Trust leads to ensure that the safeguarding of children remains at the heart of practice. Working with teams across the organisation you will be responsible for providing knowledge and expertise in all aspects of safeguarding children in the acute and community setting.

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder will be expected to provide expertise and knowledge demonstrating a sound understanding the issues relating to the identification, assessment and treatment, management of vulnerable children and families. This includes involvement in monitoring and improving standards of care through supervision of practice, clinical audit and evidence-based practice, teaching and supporting professional colleagues contributing to the Safeguarding governance process across the Trust.

    The post holder will provide clinical support and guidance to staff within the hospital and community setting: this will include supporting staff in formulating appropriate, quality referrals to social care; case management and supervision, and actively participate on the on-call child protection medical rota.

    The role will work in collaboration with the Named Nurse and in accordance with the Government guidance' "Working Together to Safeguard Children" on behalf of the Trust and to ensure staff are aware of and implement safeguarding children's legislation, policies and procedures and signposting staff to resources appropriately.

    Qualifications/Training

    Essential criteria

    • 1 st level Registered children's nurse or Health Visiting qualification
    • First degree or equivalent
    • Evidence of post-qualification study
    • Leadership training
    • Management training
    • Trained to a minimum of Level 3 children's safeguarding

    Desirable criteria

    • Professional development to Masters level (Post Graduate Certificate/MBA/MSc or equivalent)
    • Safeguarding qualification

    Previous Experience and Knowle

    Essential criteria

    • Extensive knowledge of National and Local NHS, N&M and safeguarding agenda
    • 3 years' experience in Children's Healthcare/HV setting with evidence of leadership qualities
    • Formal and informal teaching experience
    • Staff and Resource Management experience
    • Sound theoretical and practical knowledge of safeguarding children, local and National policies and guidance
    • Up to date knowledge of: o NMC Code of Professional Conduct o Safeguarding Children processes o Hand hygiene and Care Bundles o Health and Safety awareness o Clinical Governance and quality issues o Risk management o Equality and Diversity o HR policies

    Desirable criteria

    • Experience of introducing change ot the clinical environment
    • Report writing skills and experience
    • Experience of managing HR issues eg: poor performance etc

    Skills

    Essential criteria

    • Excellent high level clinical leadership skills
    • Writing and presentation skills
    • Computer literacy
    • Ability to implement policy guidelines and projects from initiation to completion

    Desirable criteria

    • Development of policy guidelines and projects from initiation to completion
