    Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse, Respiratory Support Unit - Leicester, United Kingdom - University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust

    Due to confirmation and development of a new Respiratory Support Unit (RSU) on ward 20, we are expanding the Band 6 team.

    We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated nurses with clinical experience within respiratory nursing including and managing patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions experiencing an acute exacerbation of symptoms.

    The RSU is a 28 bedded acute Respiratory ward providing level 2 care for respiratory patients, requiring a high level of respiratory support including NIV, long term ventilation, tracheostomy care,high flow and/or close monitoring. There will be facility to care for 16 level 2 patients, with theaddition of central monitoring allowing for improved monitoring for Level 2 acutely unwell patients

    You will be able to demonstrate excellent clinical skills in respiratory nursing care and have a passion for this specialty

    Main duties of the job
    • The successful candidate will support the Band 7 Ward Manager to lead a team of staff to provide a high quality service ensuring excellent standards of patient care are delivered and maintained. You will deputise in the absence of the ward manager

    • Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of a program of evidence-based nursing care to a group of patients.

    • Leadership and supervision of others carrying out all aspects of the caring process.

    • Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing care.

    • Participate in the effective clinical leadership and management of the ward team.

    • Actively contribute to the improvement of services and the quality of care provision to meet the needs of patients, service users and their families.

    • Act as a role model, mentoring, teaching, assessing and supporting students and learners on placement and participate in the education, development and mentorship of other staf

    • Ensure that the delivery of care to own patients and for all patients when in charge meet the standards determined by the Ward/Unit Manager and the Standards for Better Health.

    • Share responsibility with the Ward/Unit Manager to ensure that the highest standards of infection prevention and control are practiced at all times.

    • Contribute to the development of RSU, CMG and Trust policies, procedures and clinical guidelines and ensure compliance of self and others.

    • Take due regard of the importance of the effect and consequence of the ward/care environment with regard to its physical, psychological and social effects on patients and care delivery.

    • Promote, develop and implement patient and public involvement activities in the ward area, leading to service improvement.

    • Ensure that self and team members act at all times to provide a personalised service to patients in accordance with agreed standards and promote quality, diversity and rights.

    • Contribute to setting, maintaining and monitoring of standards of care to the optimum level and lead the improvement of care, through benchmarking, audit and research

    • Use initiative and has the ability to lead and co-ordinate a multi-disciplinary team with minimal supervision
