    Job summary

    Join us to develop and use your interest and skills in developmental language disorder and speech sound disorders and work in an enhanced provision language unit based in Corringham Primary school for 3 days a week, alongside our DLD specialist. You will work in the language unit and provide outreach to schools in Thurrock and support with second opinions for other staff.

    You will also work in a local community clinic and be part of our community team contributing to Drop in advice sessions and our preschool and school aged caseloads.

    We welcome you to our well established innovative service developing your skills with children withcaseload management and therapy skills alongside our supportive specialist and community teams. You will work in the community team with sessions at the language unit with support from our specialists as needed.

    Main duties of the job

    This post will be based at Corringham Medical Centre. You will work in the Enhanced Provision in Corringham and across Thurrock as part of a team providing a service for children presenting with communication disorders

  • As a successful candidate you will have a recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree and HCPC registration
  • You will assess, diagnose and provide therapy interventions to children and families, working in an Enhanced Provision for developmental language disorders and specific speech disorders, clinics and schools and pre schools
  • You will develop the skills of colleagues to support communication development through providing training.
  • You will organise, plan and prioritise your own work load, and that of assistant staff and demonstrate the ability to generate appropriate strategies for caseload management.
  • You will have excellent interpersonal skills - including observation, listening and empathy skills, to enable you to work to support the individual needs of the schools, staff and pupils.

    Probationary Period

    This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

    Starting with NELFT

    NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

    Job responsibilities

    1. Devise and deliver appropriate specialist intervention / care plans / enhanced models of SLT for children s with delays and disorders of communication, speech and language and provide suitable and timely support.

    2. To independently manage and make differential diagnoses for a caseload of children with delays and disorders of communication, speech and language. This includes children with/without an Educational Needs or Education, Health and Care Plan3. To provide specialist knowledge, advice, training and teaching to parents, carers, students and SLT team in all aspects of management of speech, language and communication delays and disorders in children4. Work as part of the integrated therapies multi-disciplinary team ensuring the delivery of joined up care Contribute to multidisciplinary support for clients with a range of speech, language and communication Provide oral and written feedback, advice and training to parents/family members, carers and members of the multidisciplinary team regarding communication needs and strategies to facilitate Develop and deliver training and support packages

  • o Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent

  • Experience working with clients who have a range of speech, language and communication needs in community and mainstream settings
  • Experience of working in a multi-agency and/or multi-disciplinary team

  • Experience / knowledge of early intervention approaches and low tech AAC
  • Experience providing training to education and health colleagues and parents and families
  • Experience of organising and delivering speech and language in an Enhanced Provision for speech and language disorders

  • Able to construct clear care plans for complex cases including assessment for differential diagnosis, providing therapy from a range of options based on analysis of information from assessment, theoretical knowledge and clinical benchmarking to make clinical decisions
  • Knowledge of a range of appropriate assessments for the differential diagnosis of developmental language disorder and specific speech sound disorders
