    Job summary

    An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a dynamic Blood Sciences Department as a Deputy Manager responsible for Haematology.

    You will play an important role in the operations teams working alongside managers responsible Biochemistry, Specimen Reception, Training and Development and Quality will have a resilient approach to provide leadership and take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Haematology team.

    We are looking for a pro-active individual with excellent people-management abilities and attention to detail. You will also have exceptional leadership and communication skills to ensure continuous quality improvement to strengthen and develop areas across the Haematology team and the wider Blood Sciences Department.

    Main duties of the job

    Responsible as lead Healthcare Scientist for Haematology.

    Manages and coordinates the day-to-day activities of the team.

    Leads on service improvement.

    Processes highly specialist investigations and responsible for standard and quality of results of the service.

    Provides expert advice, opinions training to own and other professions in specialist area of activity.

    Provides specialist training in own or other disciplines.

    To work flexibly in reflection of service needs which may include an extended working day and/or participation in delivery of a 24 hour, 7 days per week service.

    Maintain and promote professional image of the CUH Trust.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist or Clinical scientist.
  • Appropriate Post Graduate Masters degree or equivalent.
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Desirable

  • Recognised management qualification.
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Substantial experience in a specialised analytical or clinical area relevant to post.
  • Substantial practical experience of working in a biomedical science laboratory.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with a QMS.
  • Experience of performing incident investigations, audits and evaluating risk assessments.
  • Experience of line managing people and leadership.
  • Experience of pathology IT systems and standard software packages.
  • Desirable

  • Previous relevant experience of working in the NHS.
  • Practical experience of working in a blood sciences laboratory.
  • Previous experience of using dashboards and/or statistical calculation software such as Power BI or R.
  • Previous experience of service planning and workforce related transformation projects.
  • Knowledge

    Essential

  • Highly specialist knowledge in a specialised analytical or clinical area relevant to post.
  • Demonstrable understanding of UKAS requirements.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of HR polices.
  • To have undertaken Research, Development and audit activities.
