    Solution Architect(EPOS)/ 6 month contract / Day rate negotiable / Hybrid

    Are you as excited about the intersection of technology and retail as we are? Here at Primark we have an exciting opportunity for an immediately available Solution Architect to join us on an initial 6 month contract with hybrid working where you must be willing to travel to our Reading office 1 day per week.

    We are all about blending technology with the world of fashion, home goods, and more to craft memorable shopping experiences that bridge the gap between the digital and physical worlds.

    Purpose of role:

    This role is to join the Architecture team to advise, design and govern the solution landscape for new and existing systems to ensure the Technology solutions directly support the business landscape. The person will provide hands on architecture and design of the solution and map these into the strategic direction to ensure the future proofing of Primark's Technology systems.

    The solution architect will be working alongside the Channels Technology Team to ensure all designs for solutions will meet the Primark requirements and business case.

    The Solution Architect will work with other members of the business and Technology to produce the architecture blueprints, solution designs, and integration specifications. They will ensure they are delivered to agreed architecture standards within Primark. A key responsibility will be to build the solutions in accordance with the requirements, provides traceability to the business objectives and enables handover to the support function.

    Key responsibilities:


    • Provides thought leadership in Solution Design, Product Architecture and Technology strategy, create cost-optimised, scalable solutions and provide innovation and efficiency within solution design / improvement.


    • Provides detailed guidance to multi-functional teams through project planning and other large collaboration efforts. Fosters an environment of open communication and problem solving.


    • Works closely with Primark's chosen technology partners to implement solutions to Primark's technology and architecture standards, challenging the status quo where necessary to ensure those standards are met.


    • Develops long term vision of technologies and solutions in the space. Collaborates with Technology leadership in planning and implementing of technology roadmaps. Assists the team in researching solutions, solicits input from outside industry experts and recommends solutions to meet business requirements.


    • Introduce new technologies into Primark where required and show value to Primark at both cost and functional levels.


    • Ability to provide direction and take design ownership for projects which are delivered by a highly technical teams that supports a complex retail environment which includes:

     Oracle Merchandise Operations Management suite

     Existing EPOS application, deployed across all territories

     Online order management solution to support Primark's Click & Collect offering

     Integration solutions

     HR and Identity Management services


    • Negotiate with key stakeholders involving prioritisation of projects and resources.


    • Responsible for identifying cross directorate and cross project dependencies, risks and activities and negotiating resolution to conflict.


    • Input to development of product roadmaps and designs and solutions at technical level.


    • Providing Technical design assurance for new project and technical system upgrades and enhancements for both the business and suppliers, particularly in the area of SaaS/PaaS/Cloud. Thus ensuring standardisation of system delivery.

    Knowledge, skills & experience:


    • Previous experience of large-scale EPOS solution design, implementation and management.


    • Understanding of Brick & Mortar store retail processes (including store backoffice) a distinct advantage.


    • The Solution Architect must be an excellent communicator, an effective problem solver and be well able to motivate an existing strong technical team.


    • The Solution Architect must be able to, where necessary, push back on Primark's partners and hold them to account to ensure the correct result is obtained.


    • Experience in TOGAF and ITIL methodologies and delivering using them.


    • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally to a wide range of people at all levels including communicating complex technical issues to non-technical user base.


    • Experience identifying and understanding user issues and managing user expectations.


    • Pro-active and hands on - responds purposefully to events.


    • High level of energy, curious minded, a positive can-do attitude.


    • Ability to operate within a highly pressurised and fast paced environment, consistently delivering results and achieving corporate objectives on time and within the agreed parameters.


    • Ability to travel within Europe and work flexible hours as required.

    The Solution Architect best suited for this role will have in-depth experience of large-scale EPOS solution design, implementation and management.
