Job summary:


We are looking for a People Services Team Leader to lead the delivery of our People Service Desk providing a first line response service to enquiries from across the organisation, deliver all transactions relation to employment contracts and to ensure delivery of our monthly payroll.

Job description:


All of the people who work at the Inspectorate are critical to our ability to deliver high quality, timely and cost-effective planning decisions that affect every community.

And to ensure this happens our small People Services Team aim to provide a high quality service ensuring queries are resolved, contractual changes are processed accurately and our payroll activities are completed in a timely manner.


To do this well, we need someone who understands all disciplines of HR and how they interact and embraces technology and data to simplify processes, ensure efficiency and quality, and puts dealing with people as the focus of activity.

Our team leader needs to be a good leader, supporting people to develop and to create a highly productive team dealing with high volume and high levels of accuracy, acting as a point of escalation to solve problems and complex issues whilst, at all times, ensuring there is no loss of public money through poor process.


In a typical day, you will be monitoring incoming work/queries through our service desk, ensuring they are appropriately prioritised and allocated to relevant teams, monitoring the quality of the teams work and building a high-quality knowledge base of practical information for the team and line managers.

In a typical week you will be involved in working with teams across the people function, the wider business and outside of the Inspectorate to review processes, implement new services to support line managers, develop the delivery of training on our people systems, or you may be running our payroll data for our payroll provider, or conducting post payroll checks to ensure accuracy.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of line managing an HR team to be high performing through inclusive practices.
  • Highly IT literate with experience of MS Office/databases and an in-depth experience of managing an HR system preferably SAP.
  • Experience of working in an HR Service Desk delivery model and delivering a business focussed HR service
  • Strong knowledge of general HR practices and employment law a practical problemsolving approach to all HR issues with a continuous improvement mind set
  • Strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to judge priorities whilst working on multiple projects, and attention to detail particularly with data
  • CIPD qualified to level 5 or equivalent or a willingness to study towards this qualification
