We are looking to recruit enthusiastic and motivated individuals to take up this recently developed Clinical Fellow post. The post will rotate on a 6-monthly basis between clinical duties within the critical care unit and full-time educational activity. The clinical duties within critical care will involving working on a full shift pattern, supporting the non-anaesthetic resident rota at Southport Hospital. The educational role will involve supporting the delivery of the medical education programmes delivered at Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals, primarily but not exclusively for undergraduate medical learners.
The Critical Care Unit based on the Southport Hospital site, provides Level 2 and 3 care for a general ICU population, as well as a Postoperative Critical Care Unit (POCCU). The unit is currently constituted as 18 critical care bed-spaces (funded to 11) which can be used flexibly. The department is actively engaged with the management of deterioration within the hospital and has critical care outreach over 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Main duties of the job
This post will rotate on a 6-monthly full-time basis between the clinical education fellow role and clinical fellow in critical care role.
The clinical education fellow is a recently created post and the post holder will support the department of medical medication at S&O in the delivery of the trust simulation and clinical skills programmes, primarily but not exclusively, for medical undergraduate learners on placement in the trust.
The duties within this educational role will be primarily undertaken during daytime hours, Monday to Friday. It will not routinely include evening and/or weekend duties.
All principal clinical duties are usually undertaken under the direct, local and distant supervision of a Consultant in Critical Care and/or Consultant Anaesthetist at Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals. The Critical Care Unit at Southport and Formby District General Hospital consists of 5-funded level 3 and 6 level 2 beds. The resident medical cover is provided by both anaesthetic and non-anaesthetic personnel, including medical trainees, Advanced Critical Care Practitioners (ACCPs) and Clinical Fellows.
The duties within the clinical role has daytime, evening and weekend resident duties, supporting the non-anaesthetic resident rota on the critical care unit at S&O.

The Department of Medical Education is based primarily on the Southport site, but does support some educational activity on the Ormskirk site. The successful candidate would be expected to support the delivery of the educational programmes primarily for undergraduate medical learners. The department has invested in equipment to support technology enhanced learning (TEL) and the successful candidates would be expected to support the department in incorporating TEL into the trust clinical education programmes.
