    Job summary

    Would you like an opportunity to join a community based nursing team?

    This post will be working across the city-wide special school nursing service implementing and delivering specialist nursing care in a special school environment. The successful candidate will be required to carry out assessments; provide both planned and responsive clinical care and ensure that local safeguarding policies are adhered to.

    They will be identified as a role model for the Band 5 Special School Nurses and Enteral Feeding Assistants and will also support education staff and offer advice and support to parents and pupils.

    We would welcome applications from enthusiastic committed children's nurses with proven clinical experience who have excellent communication skills and are able to manage their time effectively.

    An understanding of the needs of children and young people with disability and/or additional health problems is essential.

    Main duties of the job

    The children are aged from 2 1/2 to 19 years and have a wide range of complex health needs. The successful candidate will be based within the special schools in Birmingham and must be able to travel during the working day.

    Full training and support will be given.

    An Enhanced DBS will be required for this post.

    Qualifications / training

  • Registered Children's Nurse/Registered Learning Disability Nurse
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Experience

  • Evidence of multi-disciplinary working.
  • Experience of working with children with complex health and social needs.
  • Skills/knowledge

    Essential

  • Demonstrate ability to manage caseload/workload and associated resources.
  • Ability to delegate work appropriately.
  • Evidence of assessment skills and ability to manage a range of care plans.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound knowledge and application of NMC Code of Conduct and Scope of Professional Practice. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of current legislative changes effecting the NHS and Social Services particularly those affecting primary care.
  • Ability to teach relatives, clients and staff across relevant areas of self-care and appropriate nursing practice.
  • Ability to demonstrate written skills that area relevant, accurate and concise.
  • Awareness of the needs of ethnic minority clients/carers.
  • Ability to work in a supervisory capacity when required.
