    A great opportunity for a part time role within The Beam Trust.

    Hours: Initially one day a week (7.4 hours) which can be worked flexibly.

    About the role:

    The Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for checking that schools within The Beam Trust maintain a safe working environment. The person will work with the Maintenance Officer and/or the Office Manager to identify hazards and implement procedures to prevent accidents from occurring. The Beam Trust Health & Safety Manager may also be tasked with inspecting premises, reviewing safety policies, reviewing safety audits and fire risk assessments and performing other duties related to keeping workers safe on the job.

    Health & Safety Manager job duties will include:

  • Reviewing Maintenance Records at each school on a termly basis to ensure all assets have been inspected and service or inspection records have been received from all contractors.
  • Making sure that remedial action relating to any defects identified on the maintenance records have been actioned or evidence of being planned in.
  • Informing the Office Manager/Headteacher of any maintenance tasks that have not been completed as per schedule.
  • Observing work areas for unsafe conditions by carrying out tours of each school on a termly basis.
  • Carrying out a review of the H&S Audits and Fire Risk Assessments on a termly basis highlighting outstanding actions to the Headteacher after each review.
  • Checking that the Risk Assessment registers are maintained.
  • Checking that the CoSHH Assessment registers are maintained.
  • Checking the DSE Assessments for each school and providing individual DSE Assessment reviews are maintained as required.
  • Research Estate and Safety Management Systems for use by the Trust. You will be responsible for the set up and maintenance of this system.

  • Qualifications/Experience
  • Experience of working within a team.
  • Proven experience of customer service skills.
  • Proven experience of taking initiative and working under pressure.
  • Ability, Skills and Knowledge
  • Able to communicate (receive and transmit) appropriately and effectively with colleagues and visitors.
  • Knowledge of good practice relating to safeguarding.
  • Able to seek out information and disseminate to others.
  • Able to maintain accurate, legible and up to date records.
  • Able to liaise appropriately and effectively with the external H&S Consultant and H&S Governors regarding the monitoring of Health & Safety.
  • Able to operate a range of Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word and Excel to produce a variety of emails, reports and spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of Database applications (DBE and EQUANS Maintenance databases) to extract maintenance records (desirable).
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety reporting systems (desirable).
  • Able to adhere to The Beam Trust policies including Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity Policies.
