The genesis of Garden Reach Shipbuilders &Engineers Ltd (GRSE) dates back to 1884 whenit started its journey as a small workshop torepair vessels of River Steam NavigationCompany.
In 1934, the Company was registeredunder the Indian Companies Act, 1913 andstarted its new journey as Garden ReachWorkshops (GRW) Limited and played an activerole during the 2nd World War wherein over4000 vessels were repaired here.
The Companywas taken over by the Government of India in1960.GRSE has the distinction of becoming thefirst shipyard of independent India to build awarship for Indian Navy, the Seaward DefenceBoat (SDB) INS Ajay in 1961.
GRSE also builtthe first ever Indian Export Warship "CGSBarracuda" for the Govt.of Mauritius,delivered FPV "SCG PS Zoroaster" to the Seychelles and an Ocean Going Cargo &Passenger Ferry "MV MA Lisha" for CooperativeRepublic of Guyana.
The shipyard was conferredthe status of a Miniratna Category I Companyin 2006.Over the last 6 decades, GRSE hasbuilt over 785 platforms including 100+warships for Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard,and Government of Mauritius & Seychelles CoastGuard - the highest warships built & deliveredby any Indian shipyard till date.
The primary role of this ISO 9001, 14001,18001, 45001, 50001 & PCMM Level 2 certifiedshipyard has been building warships and othervessels for the Indian Navy and Indian CoastGuard.
With its modern shipbuildinginfrastructure, state-of-the-art VirtualReality Lab and a 100+ strong design teamdrawing on 6 decades of shipbuildingexpertise, from Frigates, Corvettes, FleetTanker, Landing Ship Tank, Landing CraftUtility to Survey Vessels, Offshore PatrolVessels & Fast Attack Crafts - the repertoireis rich and varied.
