    Description

    Job Purpose

    The Field Support Technician carries out a wide range of activities, including completing service desk requests, troubleshooting PC issues, supporting colleagues with software use, addressing connection problems, and optimizing device security against cyber threats by working closely with the Digital Services team. This role requires strong communication skills to be the primary point of contact for IT services, experience in a support environment, adaptability to IT changes, ability to work independently and in a team, and dedication to continuous learning.

    This position spans across HMP Kilmarnock and HMP Greenock, with HMP Kilmarnock being the primary location.

    Responsibilities

    • Install and set up desktop and laptop equipment.
    • Collaborate with the Digital Services team to maintain system security.
    • Diagnose and resolve end-user computing issues, including testing solutions and ensuring resolution.
    • Oversee SPS application usage and user access relevance.
    • Communicate effectively within the team and externally on behalf of Digital Services.
    • Manage major changes within establishments, like desktop upgrades and phone rollouts.

    The SPS recruitment and selection process follows the Competencies for Success Framework, assessing key behaviors tailored to each role.

    Qualification Requirements

    • Minimum of five National 5 qualifications, including English and Mathematics, or relevant experience (Essential).
    • ITILv4 or SDI Qualifications (Desirable).

    Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements

    • Demonstrated desk side support experience, ability to log incident details (Essential).
    • Experience in deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting IT assets like printers, VoIP devices, and AV equipment (Essential).
    • Extensive experience supporting common desktop applications and services (Essential).
    • Numeracy skills for data analysis (Essential).
