    Job summary

    We are looking for a B7 Clinical Nurse Specialist to join an established Older Adult Psychiatric Liaison Team

    About the team

    The Liaison Psychiatry Team for Older Adults is part of the wider Southwark Liaison Team based in Kings College Hospital.

    The team works Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm and the team consists of Consultant Older Adult Liaison Psychiatrists, Rotational Specialist Registrars and Core Trainees, Clinical and Trainee Clinical Psychologists, Team Leader, B7 Clinical Nurse Specialists and a B6 Psychiatric Liaison Nurse.

    The team accepts referrals from all relevant in-patient wards and the Emergency Department.

    The team is very well established within Kings College Hospital and has an excellent relationship with our acute trust colleagues.

    The wider Southwark Liaison Team is accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists as part of the Psychiatric Liaison Accreditation Network (PLAN).

    Main duties of the job

    About the role

    The successful applicant should be able to work autonomously is completing full bio-psychosocial assessments of patients that have been referred to our team by acute trust colleagues.

    The successful applicant is expected to be able to triage referrals and prioritise their workload to ensure that all referrals are assessed within the appropriate time frame

    The successful applicant will be expected to supervise more junior colleagues and also act as a Student Assessor/Supervisor for Mental Health Nursing Students.

    The successful applicant is expected to have excellent communication skills and feel comfortable in liaising with Health and Social Care Professionals at all levels.

    The successful applicant would be expected to deliver training to acute trust colleagues relevant to their area of expertise.

    The successful applicant is expected to be able to formulate appropriate, non-pharmacological management of patients that are exhibiting behaviours that challenge.

    The successful applicant is expected to have a commitment to the 'Triangle of Care' and person centred care.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse or equivalent
  • Mentorship/ENB 998 or equivalent (Practice Assessor)
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Desirable

  • RGN/physical healthcare qualification
  • Educated to degree level
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Previous or current experience of working with Older Adults
  • Experience of providing teaching and training for staff and services
  • Experience of recording, managing and analysing data as part of audit, research, or service evaluation
  • Ability to manage and prioritise effectively own time, clinical case load and service needs
  • Desirable

  • Experience of undertaking assessments in all areas of acute hospital including the Emergency Department setting
  • Knowledge & Skills

    Essential

  • A sound understanding of how to assess and meet the needs of older adults with mental illness, including dementia and delirium
  • Working knowledge of all relevant legislation associated with acute mental health care including MHA, MCA, safeguarding and DOLS
  • Desirable

  • Evidence of post registration development
