Job Purpose:


The Student Welfare Officer provides students with a wide range of support throughout their academic experience at Mont Rose College.

This includes, but is not limited to, responding to queries regarding a student's mental health, disability, medical, special arrangements for exams, or personal problems/challenges.

This position reports to the Student Services Manager.

The Student Welfare Officer will establish ongoing communication and positive relationships with students, faculty, and external pastoral services to ensure students receive the best support and guidance.


Main Responsibilities

  • To manage student referrals alongside the Student Services Manager, liaising with the relevant academic team and internal and external services.
  • To engage with the academic faculty on learning differences to establish a more comfortable learning experience.
  • To work alongside the admissions department to ensure we can meet the student's needs within Mont Rose College if they have declared their personal challenges.
  • To work alongside employability and other departments to enhance student outcomes.
  • To provide pastoral support to students experiencing social or emotional issues. To ensure students with personal learning plans receive the learning accommodations outlined in the plan and that these are addressed in the classroom.
  • To maximise the attendance of students by working alongside the student service team to support students effectively throughout their studies.
  • To be an effective academic advocate for students working alongside the academic team.
  • To provide immediate assistance to students on a dropin and appointment basis.
  • To provide student information about welfare issues for distribution to staff and students.
  • To provide training to staff and students concerning health and wellbeing.
  • To maintain accurate student welfare records and information and ensure confidential records are held and shared per GDPR requirements.
  • To provide activity reports to the Student Services Manager.
  • To assist with organising health and wellbeing social activities and events for students.
  • Use initiative when dealing with problems and issues and take responsibility for followup actions.

Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in the relevant area, preferably healthrelated
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience
  • Diploma in Counselling or equivalent professional qualification
  • Understanding of national safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • High level of computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Attention to detail is a must, as well as strong organisational skills
  • Experience working with a range of physical disabilities.
  • Know how to recognise students with specific learning difficulties encountered in mainstream schools, such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, attention deficit and Asperger's syndrome.
  • Know how to identify learning difficulties in a range of situations and use a range of techniques.

Salary:
£27,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
