Job description
Job responsibilities
The Urology department at NWAFT is based across all 3 sites, Hinchingbrooke Hospital, Peterborough City Hospital and Stamford Hospital. It has 9 full time consultants. The department provides cover across a wide spectrum of Urological Practice including BPH, incontinence, laparoscopic surgery and stones. In patients and emergency work is based at Peterborough City Hospital.
The Consultants operate a 1 in 8 on call rota system. The middle grade doctors are on a 1 in 8 rota with 24/7 onsite junior (FY1-2/CT doctors) support. We have a full 3 tier rota.
The Urology Department is supported by a strong Specialist Nurse / Practitioner team. We currently have a nurse consultant, a Lead Nurse, 5 Urology Cancer Nurses and two Urology Nurse Practitioners who all run certain follow up and telephone clinics as well as performing procedures, e.g. TRUS biopsies, cystistat and in the near future flexible cystoscopies.
In addition, areas of sub-specialisation which were previously performed outside the department (i.e. Urodynamic Assessment) are now being performed within the department.
NWAFT has a first class Postgraduate Medical Centre. The Urology Department has a monthly audit half-day and the candidate would be expected to participate actively in this. There would be opportunities for research and publications (which would be actively supported), and the attendance of Urology courses and conferences as appropriate to the post holder.
