    We have an opportunity for a Full time Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry within Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership based at Kingsway Care Centre, (KCC) Kings Cross Road, Dundee.

    Dundee is a vibrant, rapidly developing city. The arrival of the V&A museum and the associated waterfront redevelopment make this an exciting time to live and work in the area. There are opportunities for numerous sporting and cultural pursuits and beautiful rural areas on the doorstep. The successful applicant will join six other Consultant colleagues in the Department of Old Age Psychiatry, Dundee. The post-holders will jointly provide medical leadership and will deliver care and promote a multidisciplinary and multiagency approach within the Psychiatry of Old Age Service.

    NHS Tayside serves a total population of almost 420,000. Mental Health Services in Tayside are provided by the three Health and Social Care Partnerships (HSCPs) of Dundee, Perth and Kinross and Angus. Each HSCP provides General Adult and Old Age Psychiatric services for its population but they also each host some of the Tayside-wide services (Substance Misuse, Learning Disabilities, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Forensic Psychiatry).

    The catchment area of Dundee serves a total population of around 150,000 with some areas of high deprivation. Old Age Psychiatry services in Dundee are divided into locality-based teams with a total over 65 population of 26,000. The Dundee inpatient Psychiatric Service is currently based at Kingsway Care Centre. The hospital has 38 beds in total for Old Age Psychiatry including two specialist dementia assessment wards and one functional assessment ward.

    Patients under the age of 65 with dementia are generally looked after by the Old Age Psychiatry Service but may have access to parts of the under 65 service if this is clinically appropriate. A locally agreed Dementia Diagnostic Pathway and guidance for transitions from General Adult to Old Age Psychiatry are in use.

    Applicants must be on the specialist register for psychiatry or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of a CCT/CESR (CP) or already in possession of CESR in psychiatry at the time of interview for the post.
