College of Science and Engineering / School of Geosciences

Full-time; 35 hours per week

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to use your technical skills to make a real impact? We are looking for a Computing Officer to support research and teaching in the School of GeoSciences - a grouping of geographers, Earth and environmental scientists tackling the most important environmental and social challenges of our times.

Running the Helpdesk in our central Edinburgh buildings, you will play a critical role in providing high quality support and assistance to our staff and students, helping to ensure they can make the most of our cutting edge technology.


In this role, you will be responsible for providing expert technical assistance, troubleshooting issues, and resolving problems in a timely and efficient manner.

You will work closely with a team of dedicated professional to ensure that our technology infrastructure is running smoothly and that our users have the support they need.


The Opportunity:

We require an enthusiastic Computing Officer to join our IT Department. This is an excellent opportunity to develop a career in IT support, joining a team of IT professionals.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification/experience.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills are required; you will be able to communicate with people of all ages, backgrounds and experience.
  • Experience of working in a computing support role.
  • Experience of administering some of the operating systems in use (Windows 10, Linux and Mac OS).
  • Knowledge and experience of PC hardware configuration, troubleshooting and replacement.
