    Specialist Oncology

    The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre provides Specialist Oncology Services to 60% of the Scottish population, delivering local, regional and national services.

    Over 105, 000 fractions of radiotherapy and over 26,000 cycles of SACT are delivered each year.
    The Specialist Oncology Service is looking for a forward-thinking Medical Oncologist to join the team.

    This post represents a career opportunity for a clinician with imagination, drive and commitment to work with the other oncology consultants and the wider cancer multidisciplinary team.

    You will provide Breast Oncology expertise and will be largely based in Forth Valley Royal Hospital.
    You will take up a post providing specialist Oncology input into Breast services. The cancer services in the West of Scotland are linked to the relevant local and regional MDTs. These services are mature, developed and supported by teams of existing consultant clinical and medical oncologists. The breast service to be provided within this post is largely based in Forth Valley Royal Hospital (FVRH).

    The Forth Valley cover includes new patient clinics as well as chemotherapy assessment clinics and review clinics for adjuvant neo-adjuvant and metastatic patients.

    Breast clinic services new and review adjuvant and neo-adjuvant breast cancer patients. Most consultant posts with significant peripheral commitments will generally attract additional travel time remuneration.
    Note that you will work as part of the team to manage cross-cover for clinics.
    You are expected to participate in yearly appraisal and job planning with the Clinical Director.
    You will be expected to participate in clinical supervision of trainees.

    Clinical trial recruitment is embedded within clinical practice within both NHS Forth Valley and BWoSCC and both have excellent supportive trials team and an exceptional track record for opening and recruiting to trials.

    There is a well-developed program of postgraduate medical education within the BWoSCC department, held on a Friday afternoon.
    The BWoSCC has an excellent track record in clinical research.

    It is a major contributor to local, national and international trials with about 1000 patients a year being entered and randomised through the Clinical Trials Unit.

    The Forth Valley Breast Oncology team makes a significant contribution to this.
