    The Vacancy

    We are now seeking to appoint a non-teaching Year Lead to join our team of outstanding and friendly pastoral leaders from July or September 2024, to be responsible for the personal development, wellbeing, behaviour and attendance of a year group and to have some oversight of their academic progress.Initially this will be Year 7 and the Year Lead typically stays with their year group until the end of Year 11.The candidate will also be Head of House, a role that celebrates and champions the pupils belonging to Mandela House, encouraging their participation in house events and promoting the house values and identity. Resilient and positive, the successful applicant will have experience of working with young people and be able to relate to them, inspiring and encouraging pupils while earning their respect.School-based experience is desirable but not essential and applications are welcome from those with a background in children and young people's services and agencies.A liking for young people and a determination to help them all reach their potential are prerequisites for the role.

    This is a rewarding full-time post, with the vast majority of hours worked during term time, but some work from home may be required during school holiday periods.Given the nature of the role, there is also the requirement to undertake occasional evening work to support or deliver events and, on very rare occasions, to support safeguarding.

    Currently, each of our Year Leads also has responsibility for supporting one key area of school life, such as pupil leadership, celebrations, work experience, anti-bullying or post-16 transition.This additional responsibility will be discussed at interview and agreed at a later date.
