- The post will be designated Clinical Fellow (Emergency Medicine). The post will be on a fixed term 12 month contract. Extension to this may be considered by mutual agreement.
- This post will be full time, taking part in a full shift rota of 15 junior tier doctors, and paid according to the NHS Junior Doctor contract at ST1-2 level, with appropriate enhancements for out of hours work and average hours in excess of 40/week and a full allocation of time for study leave and annual leave.

- Many changes to working practices have taken place: the unit utilises Clinical Support Practitioners, Clinical Support Assistants and Emergency Advanced Nurse Practitioners and now has on-site Mental Health Assessors for 24 hours per day. The department has taken an active role in the UEA Physician Associate training scheme. The first graduates started working with us in Feb 2018. We have an established ACP training programme.

About us
The Trust has been selected as one of the sites for a new hospital build by the government, with construction beginning in the next five years.
The Trust provides comprehensive acute care for the population of Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and the South Waveney area and for many visitors to the area. This acute care provided from the James Paget University Hospital site at Gorleston is supported by other community services at the Newberry Centre, Kirkley Rise North Lowestoft and outreach clinics.
The Trust serves a population of approximately 230,000. We are a University Hospital with a medical school, training the next generation of health professionals and developing research.
The Hospital is based in the coastal town of Gorleston between the resorts of Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft. Other coastal resorts such as Southwold, Caister and Hemsby also lie within the Trust's catchment area along with several Broadland villages/towns such as Beccles, Acle and Oulton Broad. The historic city of Norwich is a short journey away. The North Norfolk coast and Southern Suffolk coast are also within easy reach.

The Post
Rota
The Emergency Medicine Department works a full shift system, with Junior Doctors rostered to provide 24 hour presence. Weekends will be on a 1 in 3 basis. Total hours per week are variable, but average 42hrs/week of clinical work. Night shifts will be on a 2 in 15 basis.
Emergency Medicine Department
The Department sees around 75,000 patients per year. It receives major trauma and is a designated Trauma Unit with a dedicated helipad in the grounds. It serves a population of 230,000 people across Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and the surrounding rural communities. The area is also a major tourist resort resulting in increased attendances in summer months.

The team of dedicated, approachable and supportive Emergency Medicine consultants provide direct shop-floor cover 8am-10pm on weekdays and for at least 8 hrs each day at weekends. They also run a review clinic four days a week. There is 24/7 Senior Doctor presence provided by our team of Specialty Doctors and Higher Trainees.
The department sees a full casemix of Emergency Medicine presentations including major trauma. We currently see around 80,000 patients per year, of which a significant proportion are holidaymakers during the summer months.
We are an extremely friendly and supportive department and will reward hard work with support in developing your knowledge and skills. We provide training in Emergency Ultrasound, and run ALS, ATLS and PILS courses. The post-holders will be encourages to attend our weekly departmental teaching, and we can offer focused support and time in developing other special interests.
