    Design EngineerReporting to Design ManagerJob ResponsibilityTo be part of the Engineering design team in delivering commercially and technically accurate designs in a timely manner

    Design Engineer Job Duties:


    Be responsible for the production of the electrical design associated with a specific projectReview client specifications and produce an initial single line diagram.

    Produce a bill of quantities of equipment in line with relevant IEC, DNO, IDNO and client specificationsInterface with and attend meeting with client, IDNO or DNOPrepare and issue designs to for approvalDesign HV substation layouts and elevationsProduced detailed earthing layouts and electrical system standards.

    Design HV protection and control systems.

    Development and review of the single line diagramsProduction of AC and DC schematic drawings, cable block diagrams, cable and termination schedulesProduce high level specifications for control, protection and SCADA systems.

    Manage the detailed design of HV and LV power cable systemsLiaise with external design houses and consultancies to produce accurate designsDevelop HV system studies including protection coordination, arc flash, voltage regulation, load flow and fault level reports.

    Produce detailed specifications for high voltage equipment including transformers, switchboards, circuit breakers, disconnectors, current and voltage transformersProduce detailed specifications for ancillary plant and equipment associated with high voltage substations including auxiliary transformers, battery systems, LVAC boards, multicore cables.

    Review equipment manufacturers proposals and liaise with equipment manufacturers to ensure equipment suitability in line with the proposed design.

    Approve and issue approved design for constructionInput into the contract project plan, reporting progress as necessary and identifying any risks to the project progress and completion dates.

    Ensure that the law is complied with at all times, including Electricity at Work, H&S, ESQCR and CDM Regulations.
    Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.


    Skills and Qualifications:


    Degree or HNC in Electrical EngineeringMember of The IETChartered Engineer or working towards ChartershipWorking knowledge of office software – word, excel, power point, AutoCad, MS ProjectAdvantageous: working knowledge of design software: Revit, CDEGS etcSpan of CommunicationInternal: Leadership Team, Client Team, Procurement Department, Estimating Team and HSEQ departmentExternal: Contractors, Suppliers, Service Providers, Clients, DNO's, IDNO's, Members of public.
