Main duties of the job

To be responsible for assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of holistic patient care to a high standard of critically ill patients
To contribute to the overall development of clinical practice within critical care
To support senior staff in the effective management of resources
To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.

About us We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. Job description Job responsibilities A registered nurse on part 1 of the professional register, with current NMC registration

On the job training given to achieve the in-depth competencies required within Critical Care by preceptorship and study days. An initial supernumerary period of 12 weeks given.

Registered Mentor. Mentorship Qualification or relevant equivalent qualification (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18 month period).

Attendance on Trust induction course

Attendance at mandatory training as per Trust requirement

Requires current mentorship passport after period of induction

Good communication/interpersonal skills necessary to provide and receive complex information regarding patients condition and procedures which occur throughout Critical Care.

Awareness of current professional issues.

Ability to use tact and persuasive motivational and reassurance skills are required to implement care delivery.

An understanding of a range of work procedures and practices which requires expertise within a Critical Care, reinforced with relevant practical expertise and able to provide detailed advice to staff.

Flexibility in working patterns/internal rotation

Maintain an awareness of current Trust issues and ability to work within other clinical areas
